From dark grey to white... Home made paint job. It's white!

Post by 340cbr » 12 Sep 2007 05:00 am

Well, I decided to paint mine dark grey 340 in White.

As I do not have a lot of funds, this was a DIY paint job.

Started by buying all the material that I need to complete the job:

- 1L of white paint
- filler
- a lot of sandpapers
- 1L of """base coat"""

and some other little things..

Day 1:

- Treated some rust points.

- disassembled some things

- Remake some areas that had dents with the "filler"

- sandpapered all the car

At the end of the day, it was like this:

I realized that in a near future I'll need a new passenger door, but for now tried to make the best that I can in this one. Givven the amount of rust that it have I believe that it wat due to a previous accident that was not resolved properly...

Day 2 to come

Day 2:

Well, in the second day, all that i've done was taken out some more pieces and isolate everything that I don't want to see white

Day 3:

With everything isolated, I give the "base coat" all arround the car.

After some hours, sandpapered all the car again.

As the base coat is white, at the end of the day I have a preciew of how the car will look like in this colour.

Ah, also give the bumpers some kind of special treatment as the weren't painted

I think that's gonna be nice! You did use primer on the bumpers?

I'm thinking about the all white R-sport look:

But I'm not convinced yet.

Yes, but before the primary I give it with a spray wich I do not know the name :P

The car in there is only with the primary.

I choose BMW Alpine White III 8)

Well... this sould have been the last day, it is not perfect. Is not shinning like I would like it to do, so I have to think in a solution.

But..... It's white :D

It'll need machine polishing to bring the shine up. Paint usually looks dull when it is first applied.

Good work :)

cheers

sand it with uberfine sandpaper, then clearcoat it... if the surface isnt painted very well, then polishing might only make the surface duller (problem I had with my black roller-painted 360).
