Anyone watching Fifth Gear?

Post by 5150 » 15 Oct 2007 09:36 pm

They're interviewing Blur's Alex James - who appears to have an old, tarpaulin-covered red Volvo 440 in a barn on his farm! :D
My pride and joy: a 1986 340 DL 1.4!

I bought a rusty white 440 GLT with multipoint injection for £90 years ago. It wasn't a great car, but it was decent enough cheap transport - very easy to spin the front o/s wheel. I wasn't sad when I scrapped it though to be honest

yeah the kind of car that just does miles on the motorway for a good price :D

you car park it anywhere and not care because it wont get stole etc.

if it was rear drive i would see it in a very different light  it would get seen as a cheap tramp drift car

buy it, drift it, scrap it

Cant see the 400 series ever getting such a following like the 3's apart maybe from the 480... but then thats a boring fwd car in a quirky shell...

400's must appeal to someone, those people who don't like any feel in there driving maybe. The 480 was much better to drive that the facelift 440, driven 3 early 480T's and only 1 440, but did 500ish miles in each. Strange considering its the same car...

Best part ever on the 440 was asking the guy who owned what the screaching noise was, and him calmly telling me in was understeering. Couldn't feel it was as the steering was so light, only agreed when I look out the window at the angle of the front wheel. Very silly car.

I missed the Blur bit somehow, drifting was muchos funny though, apart from the roll(s) :o

A well-equipped "phase one" 440 Turbo might be collectable one day. The rest of the range doesn't have much of a future IMO ...

That's if there's any left! They've either been stacked or have rusted away :D

There are five on sale in Germany at the moment. Only one has an MOT.

Hang on, that's in my town :-) Maybe I'll check it out ...
