Bent valves B200E

Post by sven360 »

Barked it up and the belt went ping.
Well it didn't actually fire so guessing it pinged as soon as starter kicked in?

Bent valves or not???
Any ideas.

You could be lucky and get away with it. Try sticking on a new belt and give it a try. If you have caused damage its normaly only 1 valve

If i remember correctly it doesn't bent valves if belt snaps.
We had a list of engines which bents valves and which doesn't on a finnish Volvo forum, but i didn't find it. But hopefully other fellow finns find it and post the correct answer. But others can also answer...

If worst comes to worst my plan of salting it away may be brought forward  .

B200 do bend valves but you can get away with it. For the half hour it takes to stick a belt on its worth having a bash.

Yeah, Nick's/Jason's PTF screwed up when the belt went, but defo try a new belt Sven. Nick just stuck a 200e head on, and left the A cam in when the new belt didn't help ;)

I managed to find that list. And apparently depending of the build year it might or might not bend valves. B200E -87-> there shouldn't be any damage, but 1985-1986 damage does occur. But only way to be sure is to check the engine.

Lucky man! Well done chap, that's a bit of a relief and makes life a lot easier! I can remember as a kid helping my Dad replace the valves in our 1984 360 GLT after the cambelt snapped.

I just love stress
I'll tell thee a little tale of how not to look after a car- the reason this all occurred was due to a small off on the Weardale in March this yr.
This resulted in a weeping water pump due to the impact-not a problem just top it up every now and then-well this went on and on and on 'til it was taking a watering can every morning-as fast as ya poured it seemed to come out.
Well the pump finally seized maybe's 2 weeks ago-tow it home and dump it in a temper.
Finally get my lazy ass into gear and order w/pump off the blag £20 delivered-didn't think that was too bad for QH-local factors wanted £34 + vat for the same thing
Anyhows start to rag it to bits with my comprehensive bike spanner collection-things aren't too bad 'til ya get a bit closer to the pump then it all starts goin' wrong.
Bolts pure PIA to get to and then to top it all one of my rust on sockets hurls itsel' behind the lower timing cover-that's not good thinks me
Well being a even tempered type of character and liking nowt better than to spend my free time messing about with cars I carefully removed the lower cover with me favourite tool, good ol' Mr Clawd Hammer.
This may have been where the belt was damaged or it could have been the fact it had been on 22yr but anyhows once pumped fitted it snapped on turning motor over
Now I've got that off me chest I shall recline in my chair and await the lickings off a dog which I've no doubt I deserve.
