Locking Cams on a 1800 16v Engine

Post by WooDooUK »

Hi,

Someone may be able to help me.
I am currently striping down an 1800 16v from a renault 19 for inspection (headgasket has been gone for a while according to previous owner). My question is as follows.
How does one go about locking the cams and crank into position so not to loose the timing? i coudn't see and obvious holes in the head or the crank pullies.

Unfortunatly looks like almost all the renault forums are blocked on my works internet :(

If its the same block as the 1.7, then there is a bolt comes out from the passenger side, and an 8mm rod (i.e. drill bit) will lock the crank, and there should be marks on the cams, belt and crank pulleys I'd imagine!
