price reduction
He must be getting desperate - yesterday that had a £300 reserve and a buy it now price of £5,000. Has the bubble burst for Volvo 300 speculators?!
Sad day: the MOT ran out on mine today, and it isn't going to get another due to rampant rust in the sills. Sniff, sniff.

what you sniffing for ,the way prices are yours must still be worth at least a grand

Haha, when Mick linked that, it was £350 with a £5,500 bin. Now it's on a starting bid of a quid

300 values - 340 for parts in Surrey
Made me laugh!what you sniffing for ,the way prices are yours must still be worth at least a grand
I was toying with the idea of putting it on eBay for parts, but the thought of 1,000 e-moithers asking for a grommet kind of puts me off. Locally I can get about £60 for scrap, plus what I can strip off easily for spares, but first dibs to anybody here for £40 if you want it for spares / practising drifts in a high powered car etc..
1988 1.4 with perhaps 200,000 up [speedo went years ago I should imagine]. Smokes on initial start-up [valve seals?], heater doesn't work, hand-painted bonnet and rampant rust in the sills and splitter. Fuel tank has the optional leak, plus the doors are full of filler and knocks. Starts third time, every time.... Carb looks as though there is a blockage somewhere - possibly a breather hose is all. Other than that, it actually runs fine; engine goes well, gearbox and axle fine, as is the clutch. MPG drifts between 20mpg and 35mpg - ahem, fuel tank leakage does not help.
Bonus item: new exhaust.
So your basic knackered old Volvo then.
I'll not strip for parts, so it is an all or nothing sale. Can be driven away, as it is taxed, but you'd need to book it in for an MOT to be technically legal there.

Cheap Volvo
Have I undersold the good points then?
Perhaps I should do the same as that Blueline guy on eBay and raise the price by £50 per day until it sells? Now there's a sales strategy for you.
Mind, when I did my stint as an estate agent we had a flat for £145k that wouldn't sell. We also had a guy walk in and state he wouldn't buy anything for less than £160k.... We raised the price to £165k and hey presto! he bought it without even haggling the price down a tad.
...my car does have a new exhaust and two months tax... It also has a fairly new air freshener.
Guess the consensus is to melt it down for the Chinese?

You've all missed it!
Sad day here in Workshopmanualman land. My 340 went to the great scrapyard in the sky. Well, to be more accurate... the engine went to Africa to choke the locals, and the body tub went to China to make counterfeit batteries and unsafe toys. So it has gone to a good home and hasn't been wasted.... er?
I did strip out all the useful, non worn out stuff though - one mirror, a seat adjuster knob, the tailgate struts and some wheel trims. I was mortified to find that I'd left the air freshener in as that was the only new item on the car.
The scrap bloke gave me £40 for it such was local demand. Funny, their advert stated they'd pay a £60 minimum. I'll ponder that one. Perhaps the air freshener wasn't so good after all?
Have a happy Christmas all!
