I'm none-too-familier with the welder and, wanting a good job, thought it would be better in the hands of professionals! The first 8 photo's were taken in 2003 at Paintwork By George, Hull were, as you can see, they elected to prep the car before doing any paneling-up or welding  They also thought it was reasonable to take £1K off me promising a finished car, and then to never bother... indeed 4 years on they reckoned that primer meant the car 'just needed finishing'
Anyway, I got 75% of my money back off em (with a degree of difficulty) and let my mate Chris do it as 'a bit on the side' :o , he works at a garage doing their repairs and does govvies when there is no work on, in between jobs, on a weekend etc and as you can see he has cracked on with it in the past 5 weeks :D

All the panlels were bought from the local Volvo dealership in 2003, when the work was first started :x ... the problem being now at the moment there is very little available, for the rear panel section of just the piece the lights sit in, I had to get a local Volvo breaker to cut the back end off a 360 just to get those little pieces, but everything else is new genuine Volvo

Excellent work. Your story is the exact reason I'm worried about taking my cars to bodywork people - SO many cowboys out there :(

cheers

Finally picked up and staright to the MOT station when it sailed through, not bad for 54 months off the road!

Some niggles to sort (dash light is erratic, grille is loose at the bottom) and it requires a full valet

Check my driveway out - 3 x 300's in a row!

That's pretty involved! I'm impressed with your dedication to the 300 model and the expense as well, which I would see more as an investment. As long as you've got plenty of rust prevention treatment in there, as sadly welding creates bare unfinished metal in the hard to reach places on the reverse. I'd hate to see rust start coming through or festering away after all the work and effort that's gone into this! This is often why the bodgers patching last so little time, as they don't protect the area where they've welded on the reverse. Waxoyl or Dinitrol is the way forward, and there are some good mobile services about, where they'll come to you with all the kit. Otherwise, I'm using the sprayer kit and extension probes for getting along the sills etc and I've also got a sprayer that will connect to an airline. It's just finding the time to do it, as I'd wanted to do it before winter arrived....... but it never happened.
