I'm a Student (studying 'Sound, Light & Live Event Technology' (BSc)....not half as much of a doss as it sounds - part electronic engineering, part event management, part hell, not very much playing with gear!).

When I'm not being a student, I work in the live entertainment industry (mainly sound & light engineering, plus some sales, etc), and I also do some IT work.

I get paid bugger all (at the moment), but its great fun. This weekend we're off to the festivals! A free ticket and AAA passes for preparing some video footage

I'm a student at Birmingham Conservertoir, studying Music Technology.
Basically Mixing, Recording and synthesis, but we do a bit of live sound and surround experimentation. shitloads of theory, maths and physics, a fair chunk of electronics, and a decent amount of music theory... the days are pretty long!

When I'm not at uni i work as a freelance live sound engineer, and I've worked with some decent sized names, the biggest being Jamie Cullum, Goldie Lookin' Chain (you fuckin knows it!) and Steve Harley. I also shadowed the FOH engineers for both Morrisey and James brown at Glastonbury! Great fun

James, SL&LE at Derby was my 2nd choice for uni after brum, and I wish I'd gone there to be honest! what year are you in?

Just entering the 3rd year. It was called 'Live Performance Technology' in my first year.

Who were you working for? If you were with the GLC I'll guess that was 'the other stage', so Skan?

I haven't done much 'big' work, and I don't wanna count pushing boxes

My biggest claim to fame is doing standalone sound & light for Radio 1 DJ 'Emma B', which is fairly impressive given I own a 4k rig of home-brew (albeit very nice!) boxes. To be honest, I've concentrated more on learning than work.

You don't wanna buy any kit do you?

I work for First Group, my official title is Fuel/Mileage Administrator for Hampshire and Dorset (read: boring!). But hey, it pays for the GLT and all the petrol it consumes!!!

I worked FOH with the GLC at the Barfly in liverpool, i got the gig through one of my mates who was doing photography and gave them my card, they phoned me at the last minute (like 6 o'clock for an 8 oclock start, and it's a good half hours drive away.
Jamie Cullum at the Symphony Hall in brum (backline/shadowing monitors), I'd phoned the symphony hall a few days prior looking for work. And got a call back asking if i was interested, wasn't gonna turn down £50 for 5.5 hours work!
Steve Harley was at guilford festival, i'd been doing monitors all weekend for various bands on the 2nd (uncut) stage, and got approached by the man himself (who i didn't recognise until he said, Hi I'm steve from cockney rebel

) backstage, very nice guy. apparently their engineer was being a cunt and refused to work on mackies or something.
Morrisey and JB i was shaddowing a guy called Dave Ferrar.
If im counting pushing boxes i could add about another 20 names, including the darkness and supergrass

What gear have you got? I'm in the market for a new decent desk, mine is a 15+ year old Allen and heath, 16x4x2, wood annd leather, solid as a rock, but bastardly heavy! I'm saving up for a protools rig atm, tho

I am a train driver, I 've only recently got my train drivers licence prior to this I worked at various railway stations for low wages, i'm now on good money but have no plans to get rid of the Volvo.
My wife is learning to drive and I'm trying to persuade her to get another Volvo but she has a thing for Renault 4 s.

I'm a Cabinet Maker, though I've just decided to leave my job for various reasons, helping out another company at the moment in a busy period. However all being well I'm going to start up on my own doing bespoke furniture, cabinet making, woodwork etc. It is interesting to see what everyone does for a living on here! All Volvo drivers, but with very different lives and some definitely are not the stereotypical Volvo drivers!

I work for the worlds leading glass manufacturer.Started as electrician but that title has more or less dissapeared in industry. Present job is a electrician/fitterplumberwelderdogsbodypainter. Another "hat" is I am an authorised HV person working up to 11,000 volts. That keeps you focused more than domestic voltages.

right here we go left school worked for post office counters then became a T.V licence enforcement officer (boo hiss ) and court prosecutor for t.v. licencing. got medically retired after an assault on duty by a paranoid psyco who looked like Claude Greengrass which left me impaled on a metal gate post through my back and lost the use of my right arm for over a year due to lateral nerve damage, moved to Milton Keynes and worked for the benefits agency paying out lazy spongers more than I was earning. Then got a great job as night security manager for a company that provided customer service and security for Milton Keynes railway station (greet 'em then Beat 'em ) thet got taken over by Geoff Cape's security firm (cowboys ) so I walked , worked briefly for silverlink railway in the booking office before becoming a full time foster carer to a fantastic 15 year old lad who has cerebal paulsy and is partially sighted but his biggest disability is being a Man Utd supporter Its the most rewarding (not financially though) and enjoyable job I have ever done just took me 45 years to get there so don't give up guys
