Front drivers door handle.

Post by 340GLT »

As they do, mine snapped on me this morning, annoying even more considering they are painted on my car, anyway. I'm after a PAIR of front drivers door handles, one to put on the car for now, and one to paint.
Needed ASAP. Must be in good condition, chrome must be good, no cracks, condition of black paint unimportant.

They're one of the parts that go for a living, so they've probably got a stockpile.

Tip....when my old man used my 360 every day (back in the day) he went through door handles at an amazing rate. He even complained to Volvo about the quality at one point, as one failed immediately outside of the 12 month warranty. Aaaanyway. I've never had one go, and I've been driving 300s now for 7 years (and the 360 all of those years). My trick? Unlatch the door using the handle, then open it by the frame. I started doing it by accident, but it really seems to prolong the life of the handles.

I guess the design of the handle makes it prone to a stress fracture over time when you heave on it at full extension..

cheers

Hmm, you've got me thinking now James. How do I open a door? It's one of those things you do so naturally it's hard to remember exactly how you do it

I think I use the door frame as you mention when there's not much space, not sure about other times :?

FFS, after trying to work out what everyone has been on about for the last ever, and having not had one go on me in 7 years too, Fake's went last night.

Adam, can you key the ones you got from the dealers to the orig key?

lol Chris... absolutely typical isn't it!

I've not had one fail on any of mine either.... must depend on how you open them!

If you look carefully, you get months of warning, as the fracture slowly spreads.

So the actual handles themselves break as well then? I had the unlocking mechanism break on mine once:

Mine you can see from the outside, the silver handle has a pokey bit going through the black frame. It's this pokey bit that has broken, now I need to see if it's easy to re barrel a lock.

They usually snap where the curved section which pulls out of the door joins the flat face of the handle...on a nice diagonal. You can drill a hole through it and slot a keyring through it, in an emergency!
