1.4 tuning help????

Post by kds19 »

hey all im new to this forum,
i have a volvo 340 1.4 dl, it is my first car as im only 17.
i am keen to start driftin and i dont want to go to the hassle of changing the engine yet
so i was just wondering if there was anything i could do to get more power out of it without doing anything too drastic?
any help would be much appreciated.
thanks
kev.

Hi and welcome to V3M!

afraid the answer is that its probably not worth it, the engines are pretty torquey for a 1.4 anyways. The only real way of making it more drifty is to tighten up the handling lots. I would leave the engine alone if it works well, and wait until it is possible to afford a 16v engine swap (actual swap is very very cheap, only the insurance that'll sting)

For lowering bits etc talk to dai (classicswede) who has a thread in the offers section on performance parts

clio 16v engines fit very easily with a couple of other volvo bits needed, loads of topics on it and a far better design than r5 gtt engines!

cheers for the replies.
its just i heard that 1800s and 1700s only fit 1.7 340s due to the subframe being different than the 1.4?
is that true and if so, how would i overcome that problem?

have a good search around, theres plenty of info on the swap. I've not much idea about 340's but the chassis etc is all the same as far as I know, I think its only the sump and 1.7 bell housing that need swapping.

The subframe is easy to fit from the 1.7 as we had to do this to our 1.4. Its only 6 bolts 2 each side and two on the inside.

The subframes are the same?! Or did you have to change your's due to corrosion SPS?

I think it comes down tot he fact that the 1.7 mount differently. eg engine mount on sump etc.

thats it.

everything lines up right as far as im aware..
