Cam Belt Tensioner

Post by CarlD »

I currently have had an intermittent squeal from the cam belt area of the car and believe it to be the cam belt tensioner, i don't think it's the idler pulley. I've rung my local motor factors and been quoted around £70 for a replacement.

Can anyone recommend good place to get a deal on one of these. I've had a search around the net but had quite a spread of prices and not knowing the brands of some i worry a bit about quality.

Cheers

Gsf or bennets are normally good.

in the GSF trade cataloge it says volvo 340 1.7/400 1.7 87-96 Timing belt tensioner part no. V13132 Price: £24.50

hope this helps

Make sure you get one for the right engine if you have the metal front cover you will need the early one. If you have the plastic front cover then a trip to the scrappy and grap one off a newer 400.

I believe SKF made the original cam belt tensioners for the B200, so they might be a good source for the Renault 1.7's as well?

Thanks for yor comments

I've had a look around and reguarding Dai's comments, my engine has the metal cover. Looking at the block there is a number cast on it which is J598441 there is also a plate on the block which has C028308. Which of these is the engine number

I've had a look at GSF and they only list the below which is not the right one i think.

V13132 TIMING BELT TENSIONER 340 Series 1.7 Carb. B172K 87> (Eng.51892>)

Eurocarparts have two listed but the both are for engine No. 51 onwards.

The only one i have found which looks like it maybe the correct on is part No. PFV903323 at: http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/def ... 05_570_572

Can some confirm this.

Cheers

It looks like the one to me but it is hard to tell for sure from the picture.

If it would wait a month or so I'm about to pull one of those style engines out.

Afternoon all,

I'll try to clarify things a little.

Firstly whilst Volvo traditionally give chassis renges - Renault give engine no ranges. Basically there are two set ups for the B172/B18 (300 and 400) which I shall call Early and (guess what) Late. Parts are not interchangeable.

Early is fitted to engines up to no.51891 (340) and no.16529 (400) and has a 124 tooth timing belt.
Late is fitted to engines from no.51892 (340) and no.16530 (400) and has a 125 tooth timing belt..

Early

Volvo = Belt 3342103, Tensioner 3287776, Idler 3342143.
Pts f Volvo = Belt 903424, Tensioner not avail, Idler 903323,
GSF = Belt V13090, Tensioner not avail, Idler not avail,
Euro Parts = Belt 325660025, Tensioner 326660130, Idler 326660140,

Note, whilst GSF lists V13090 as the correct belt this is in fact the same 125 tooth belt as listed for later cars.

Late

Volvo = Belt 3343720, Tensioner 3343741, Idler 30855992,
Pts f Volvo = Belt 903425, Tensioner 903324, Idler 903325,
GSF = Belt V13090, Tensioner V13132, Idler V13134,
Euro Parts = Belt 325660035, Tensioner 326660060, Idler 326660050,

Oh! the engine no for the B172K is the one by the dipstick.

Hope this helps a little,

Mac.

Mac, mind if I put this in the technical "this is so useful it'll soon get buried so lets put it somewhere safe" section?
