Hello everyone, I wonder if anybody can shed any light on this. Up until 12 months ago I had a 340 1.4, on which the Renix unit expired on a genuine 50,000 mile engine, by coincidence, a mate of mine had the same problem a few months earlier. as my 340 was quite scruffy, it went to the scrap yard, but I really miss it
I would like to get another one, as they seem to have no value I would aim to get a minter, but I'm put off by the possibility of more Renix problems. My question is, are the Renix units still available, are they expensive, or is there a modification to use a standard type of ignition? Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

Most problems put down to the renix arn't that at all. Garages will swap them, not realising they contain mapped ignition data relavent to engine type, so you have get all kinds of mismatches.
Don't worry about renix's, I've done 80,000m in 300's now and new had to even de-oxidise the terminals on the coil (aside from replacing the one on my 1.7 when I bought it, as it had the wrong one on to fix "carb trouble", along with a replacement carb that was jetted wrong eetc
) If you get one, and have issues, there is generally enough knowledge spread about on this forum that you'll be able to sort it, but odds are it won't be the renix thats the problem

My 340 has done over 200,000 on its original renix. I only recntly changed it as i wanted different ignition mapping.
I do have quite a few good s/h renix units if anyone needs one. For info the coil can be seperated off the renix and replaced seperatly.
