B200K float adjustment (once again)

Post by jtbo »

I still can't get my head around this.

As I understand, float adjustement is checked with gasket to point of float furthest from gasket, so that ball valve is not closed, am I awfully wrong?

Problem I'm facing is that my float is too big, 33mm to tip when it is against gasket, book says that I should adjust float to 33.8mm and that would mean that ball valve never closes.

So, am I supposed to adjust float so that ball valve closes when float meets gasket?

Or should there be more clearance?

Ball valve should be closed when you're measuring the floats on these carbs. Same for 1.7. Let the valve close and let the ball spring in, then measure and it should be 33.7mm from the tip of the float to the gasket.

That's different to B14 and the stroms fitted to earlier ones.

Thx from quick reply :)

Green book says 33.8mm, but if I adjust it so I will get fuel into starter motor  But I think 0.1mm has not much effect really.

So I adjust it so that it closes valve just before float meets gasket, that should be enough close what has been intention of designer. I believe it has been designed so that there is maximum possible amount of fuel in float chambers, numbers do look like it at least.

No, there should be several mm of clearance between the bottom of the floats and the gasket otherwise the carb will be flooding all the time. Lemme see if I can find a picture.

That is fairly impossible for given dimensions, Technical documents section has picture of adjustment in engine part and as float itself is already 33mm or bit more one can't get more than ~1mm of clearance. However if I would adjust float to let's say 38mm then I could get of course more of clearance.

This is why adjustment is troubling me, there must be something I don't get in it or then my floats are just bigger than they should :D

Thx from pic :)

Image looks similar to one at green book, when I set dimension A to that value I get less than 1mm clearance between float and gasket.

Could it be that I have then wrong floats? Can't see how this could be possible otherwise?

Sometimes these issues are really really weird, imo :)

Checked now and my spare part float is over 3mm shorter (less tall) than, one in car, isn't that quite odd ? :D

No wonder those instructions seemed always to be bit off :P
