Emissions 1.4 CVT models.

Post by macplaxton »

Hi,

I'm looking for emissions data for the 1.4 CVT models so I can work out the Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) payable on importation to Ireland of one of these cars should I decide to buy one.

[url=http://www.revenue.ie/index.htm?/faqs/faq_cat8.htm]New VRT regime FAQs{/url]

As I don't think there are figures related to the emissions expressed as g/km:

a) I do nothing and pay the >225g 36% of open market selling price (OMSP - or what the revenue thinks it's worth, not what I paid) and this is subject to a minimum €720.

b) Calculate it using the Revenue's formula if I can provide official documentation of the combined figures – derived from an average of the urban and extra-urban figures. Each banding it goes down by will reduce the tax by 4%.

These rules came in on the 1st July 2008 in relation to VRT. Annual Motor Tax however, will continued to be charged on the basis of 1st worldwide registration date. This was all based on engine size and would be €320 p.a.

As you can see no matter what cheap Volvo I bring in from the UK, I'm potentially facing a bill of €480-€720 + €320 (€800-1050) to put it on the road, however if I find a car in excess of 30 years old VRT would be €50 + €46 annual motor tax. This would allow me to spend more money on the car.

Any fuel permissible fuel consumption figures would be of great help in determining the exact VRT payable.

Cheers,
Rich.

Well I've been pondering all day and a sub-30 year old car would cost me €1000 more to bring in than a classic. So I've scrapped the idea. Better for me to put €1000 more towards the car than the tax man.

Bought something that appears to tick all the boxes for getting to work.
