Laugh a minute

Post by workshopmanualman »

With prices the way they are, this one is looking more like a loser every day....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1985-VOLVO-360-GL ... dZViewItem

Why would you pay a grand for a slightly duff one, when for £400 you could have a near mint example? But then I have a qualification in economics so don't understand money or people!
I blame the Volvo 66 estate I had......

if they take that car off ebay, then ebay would probably collapse.
its been there so long its become part of the very foundation of Ebay itself.

sad thing is, its probly a really nice car. Needs what? a half a days work to be awsome? maybe a day? Ive spent longer than that cleaning mine!

Its just a shame its in the hands of unscrupulous slimey dealers.

i think we should all chip in and buy it.
Raffle it off to a v3m member for xmas.

id love to see it go to a good home.

Yeah they're having a laugh. Member on here 'OapEM' got a seriously tidy 360GLS for £400, hopefully some pics soon. I saw that car on the forecourt and thought "that'd fetch £1K on ebay", but not since credits started getting crunched.
I'm on the lookout for a cheap V8 lexus, as a future donor, grab em while they're cheap, engine will fit in a 300 no probs. Same exact thought for beemer 540s, or owt with a big lump.
If you're lucky enough to be in stable employment, there be bargains ahoy.

V8 lexus really got straight in a 300 john?
Jesus. Starting to wish my engine was a bit bust. Unfortunatly, its sweet as a sugar coated xmas almond. Love to see that though.
Sounds dangerous.

Whey, straight in is a bit much, but it'd physically fit.
Here's a chevy 305 I measured up a while ago:

Ah. Thought you meant a straight swap. Not very technically minded me see. Completley mentally glossed over the jiggling, fabrication, alterations and adaptations actually necisary to run a v8 in a 300, and just thought- wow, cool. Bet that goes fast.

I'd be wary of a 540 v8.They're partial to a liner or seven.
If you know what I mean.

Oh and that Chevy doesn't count only looks to be a 305.
Unless I'm mistaken.
Unlikely, I agree, but not unknown

Yep, '78 camaro smog spec, 2BBL, 140hp  That's not even 30 per litre! 260lb ft though, so more than enough to worry the volvo box, and probably enough to worry the THM125 3spd in the Pontiac once I let the thing breathe a bit.

If it's a mint car, I would not see the thing about it! I'd rather spend 1000 quid on a mint car, than buying 'just a nice' car for 500, and have to spend another 1000 on respraying and stuff...

Ive seen a perfect 345 '82 go for €2250,-. totally worth it!

The thing is that the 300's in the UK are so cheap :( Here in Holland, prices from €1000 or more are more common for a good/mint 300. Expecially if it's a special car (3dr 360, GLS, GLT etc)

The buying price of a 300 may be cheap, but with cars which are 20+ years old you do have to stick more money into parts, repairs etc, than if you'd bought a mid- to late-nineties FWD Eurobox. Even if you get lucky with a so-called "minter" there will invariably be rubbers which have perished, rusty exhausts, brittle tyres, leaky fuel lines etc. etc. to deal with.

These "minters" to tend to be MkIII models too. If you're after a Mk1, or a Mk2 3dr GLT you're in for a long wait if you want a good car, in many cases you just have to take what's available and be prepared to travel long distances. An A/C-equipped MkIII? Be prepared for a trip to Spain. A B19-engined Mk1? A long, long wait, there was one in Brittany recently. Oh, and in northern Sweden. An R-Sport? Forget it ;-) There were two for sale in Belgium earlier in the year, both in need of total restauration.

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, what an opportunist visionary in the UK should REALLY be doing, is buying up cheap, top quality 300s and shipping them over to holland for a small but worthwhile proffit.

Right. The all new Volvosneverdie exports inc. needs a partner.

Ideally someone with 1)money, 2)expecience of shipping, 3)excellent work ethic, 4)Working knowledge of the dutch language.

I smell the foundations of an empire being built.

Not really tho eh?

There's a RHD to LHD conversion thread being discussed at the V3C at this very moment ;-)

As far as I can tell:

the UK got the best-equipped cars
Holland has the most "minters" for sale
Germany got the wackiest special editions
Italy & Spain some A/C cars
Australia's got lovely A/C-equipped Mk2 GLTs, but soooo far away!
