too kind for my own good
ok not only do I have one of my foster sons citroen ax on the drive waiting patiently for him to actually pass his test ,
I have now agreed to "look after " his brothers volvo errrrrrrrrrrrrr 480 .
it needs a new clutch and a couple of other jobs for the mot but it looks ok .
this has come about because he has moved and his new carer has no space for a car and his old carer was going to have it scrapped .
I think Chris c knows a bit about these and I know they have electrical gremlins as a standard from factory item .
so far all i know is the clutch needs doing ( how hard are these to get and do?) ,
and one of the pop up headlights dosent !!
any clues what Im up against as the lad is only 17 its his first car and I want to help him if I can even though he dosent even live here .

Re: too kind for my own good
Prepare for a vaguely big job on the clutch buddy, it's not easy. Memory tells me it's possible with the engine in by shifting the box, but that still involves halfshaft off and box moved a bit, but that'd need checking.
Popup not working, check the sidelights are the correct bulbs, that can stop them. Worst case I have a pair of popup's here waiting to go on the bay, but you should be able to fix yours. If you want a forum, 480 club europe used to be good, not been there lately though. Certainly they had a few very good guys a while back.
C*cking hell, I only owned one long enough to steal the engine out of it

Hi Redline.
A mate of mine over here in Belfast was qoated £700 for a new wireing loom.for his 480.It is now being parted out.
You would probably be better of buying another 480 and keeping that one for spares.
Cheers Mark.

Re: too kind for my own good
I must admit ,
its not my choice of car and hes going to have to sort the clutch out on top of paying about £60 to get it brought to mine
apart from the hassle of going to Carlisle to pick it up I reckon this ones a better bet than the one hes got
http://retrorides.proboards86.com/index ... read=53794
£300
MOT 3 Aug 09
Tax End Oct 09
and are they vesas tucked under the wings , I think they are

Hi redline.
That would solve the problem.Get him to part out his car and get the money back. Those wheels will bolt streight onto a 360.
Cheers Mark.

Re: too kind for my own good
Heyyyy theres nothing wrong with 480's i've owned a few in the past recently got another actually..ok fair enough they are known for a few electrical problems but beside that they are fine if you know what you're doing..as for the 480 website you can try it but I would say they are no way as helpfull as this forum!!!
As Chris a says as its a tranversal Engine the drive shaft and gearbox need to come out to put in the new clutch, headlight is probably the motor, but would check the wiring first..or just tap it and carefully lift it up (worked on my two tone) Just dont be too heavy handed lol!!
Cheers
Jay

That job on my cav was a nightmare. Had to drop the front submember and all sorts.

It's the Daylight running lights I was thinking of with the popups. Wrong bulbs will stop the popups popping up... 480 club europe incase you havn't found it is
