You had new battery also?

Can't be much else than shimming or brushes then, I guess? :?

Hopefully there is simple solution to this problem :P

new battery.

The volvo starter motor i had on it last was brand new! it would work fine then scream non stop for a few days, you coudl take it out and put it back in and it would work fine again for a bit.

I'll try shimming as that might nock it back a bit, ive just purchased the 5/6 starter motor to try! i expect the same results to be honest!

That sounds annoying! Hope you get it fixed, and, I hope I don't get the same problem.

I hate old fucking cars!
My volvo aint going no where with this problem!

My baby works! Its cost me all of 5p to fix, untill friday! when my spare decent bell housing goes off! 2mm washers on each bolt- between bellhousing face and starteer face. And its fired in to life so far: 6 times on the key before the golfs battery i was using ran out of charge :D so back to ordering adjustable top mounts. and welding random pieces of metal in to place!

well so far its simple.

Tomorrow will be the test, ive got the battery on charge( the one i pinched from our golf m2) and the starters still in place, so heres hoping tomorrow it just fires straight up on the key each time, and if it does i will be glad. Ive been smiling all evening because of it. a new lease of intrest as such now!

Hmm, maybe you could test if that starter gear wheel matches to flywheel, if those tooths don't match it could cause jamming.

its one of the starters that has worked fine before the car is still at a slant aswell, so im wondering if something inside the bell housing is loose maybe the flywheel its self.... although i'll take the shims out tomorrow and see what happens then I know its the starter because its spaced out i can see sparks coming out of the small gap! so its firing nicely! not staying running mind you! it needs throttle to keep it running right now it stalls the minute theres no throttle!

well flywheel aint loose.

starters not damaged, flywheel isnt damaged now im stumped again. the starter was a bit sticky though on movement so that could be why it stayed on.
