smallish problem

Post by kds19 »

when iwas on my way to my girlfriends house last night my car conked out and wouldnt start agen
for no aparent reason just driving along ant it coughed a bit then just died and lost all revving abilities
managed to run the battery completely dry (wouldnt even power the hazzards lol) trying to start it
eventually managed to get it started by being towed at 30mph while im in second gear with the clutch out
my dad says the battery goin that dry would be an earthing problem
but could anyone shed any light on why it just conked out with no warning??
cheers

could be your fuel pump, mine used to do it. it'd cough n splutter and then just died and wouldnt start for a while.

I'm going to agree with Kaos, if all the sparks had escaped through alternator not charging, then you wouldnt have been able to crank it (been there, done that on a 480T with electric fuel pump...)

Is yours a 1.7? Check looseness between carb and inlet mani, and if they are cloth covered fuel hoses check they arn't leaking and replace with injection ones too.
