Nice article there on sniff petrol

Everyone goes on about being green, and I'd no one arguing it until the other day when a member of the green party was on the news disagreeing with it. Scrapping good cars to make new ones uses a heck of a lot of energy. Obviously it depends on how many miles the owner does as to the benefit of 'upgrading'.

The German Green Party is against the scrapping scheme too. They use the following calculation: on average, 20% of a cars' lifetime carbon emissions are caused when it's being produced. That's based on average mileage, and the car being used for 15 years. But this "scrappage scheme" is getting rid of cars which are as young as 9 years old, most already fulfilling Euro 2 emission levels and better. That means, by scrapping a car before it's really necessary, you're heating up the planet more.

Also, fuel consumption isn't any better these days either, cars are better equipped and are heavier, nine years ago air con wasn't a standard thing, etc. etc.

So, from a "green" point of view, it's a total waste of resources. From an economic point of view it's a different matter, the car companies are profiting from it, and it's not just manufacturers of cheap Korean cars. Ford in Cologne is running extra shifts, they can't produce enough Fiestas at the moment to meet the demand. Opel and VW are happy too, Mercedes and BMW less so, as people who might have bought (and serviced) a used "premium" car now buy a new Opel.

Also we can't heat our planet, at least not with anything related to cars, no matter how hard we would try, it is just not going to happen.

Past 12 years planet has not warmed even a bit, based on real data all over the world. Of course this is inconvenient truth 'green' people making money out from hysteria are trying to keep hidden.

At circa 1970 they did try to scare people with new ice age as climate had cooled down quite some time, there were small ice age not too long ago and ever since then climate has been warming up. When dinosaurs were around there was really long time from last ice age and climate had warmed up nicely, plants were bigger, animals were bigger etc. Our planet is slowly returning to that as recovering from ice age. There was something like 0.002% increase of CO2 estimated that could be caused by humans, however most of that is because of our breathing.

With little math I found out that removing Finland completely from earth would not cause any effect, removing europe would probably have effect of some number decreasing a bit but still no any effect, we are still so small, Russia alone is putting more CO2 out than whole europe and US is bigger than russia + europe, but still nothing even near to China, so I certainly don't see any point in this thing specially as there still is Australia, India, whole Africa and rest of Asia + few 'small' countries in America, seriously only thing we can make is getting our lifes something that we don't enjoy anymore.

This information leads me to be quite negative with anything that says green on it. Only thing I find good is Kellog's Corn Flakes, they plant tree from one package of that stuff and as I have always Corn Flakes for quick snack it is not bad thing that they are green too, not the flakes, but company

This money milking with climate has gone too far.

There has always been some people that makes threats and enlargers them, cold war, climate cool down and ice age, I believe that governments realized during WW2 or even WWI that it was very easy to control people with some threat around and as cold war did end, we got terrorism and climate.

If climate threat would be real, wouldn't you see government preparing preservation of human race and making plans to survive in new kind of environment? However only thing they do is milking money.

Sounds like a spiffing idea.
I have been practising this for some time and can highly recommend it.

Hmm .....
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... Record.png

Of course, it could all be part of a grand scheme by evil powers to take over the world, and I guess the world trade centre attacks could have been planned by Mossad, and the Americans faked the moon landing ;-) :-) ... but somehow, I don't think so. Let's just agree to disagree, eh?

Unfortunately global warming is a perfect excuse for every eco-fanatic who prefers living in trees to go car-bashing and banning people having fun just because he himself is so unhappy, but that doesn't mean "global warming" all humbug. If it turns out all the scientists are wrong and we've all been lied to, then at worst, we've saved a bit of petrol. But I think they're probably right ...

Not a popular thing to say in a car forum! So I'll have to add (before my membership on V3M gets deleted) that I could never ever vote for the green party as they want to impose a blanket speed limit on German roads. Arghgh! And even if they don't manage to do that, they're slowly but surely managing to impose one in practice, with a new section of speed limit here, a city centre ban there ...

Going back to the car scrapping scheme, scrapping a perfectly good car and using a gigantic amount of energy to produce a new one is just a waste. I have to agree with the Green Party on that one.

TTom, if I were to suggest to you that the planet is coming towards to the end of a "MINI" ice age, which way would you predict the temperature to go????
Just curious to your thoughts.

Our world is different, here we don't have terrorism, here our green party supports car scrapping scheme as our green party can't understand that making car is polluting environment. I heard something about self induced terror attacks, similar what you get if you keep poking bear with stick.

Over 30 000 scientist disagree with Al Gore bandwagon, number is ever increasing and green scam is soon facing it's final days, but they will find another one.

Problem in science world is that they will get money only to studies which support certain view, going against general trend is difficult route which won't help with career and that is reason why there have been quite little another opinions, but there will be as more and more scientist will start to think 'what if?'.

Meanwhile we are milked money at ever accelerating speed, soon here we need to pay extra pollution tax from heating, even if we do it with green electricity
