Looking good, 3 door as well....! Its great you run them through the winter.
The salted roads up here are just too corrosive for the old 360, should be out of hibernation in March 8)

Thought I had better post some updates here. Still reeling from hearing that the ULEZ will likely be extended to New Malden next year and *ALL* my bangers will therefore have to be SORN'ed. Still there are selfish £-signs in my eyes at the thought of not having to tax, MOT and insure them, on a reduced pension. Just keep them safe and quiet.

Anyway, the 360 was put back into action for a few days but the water pump started leaking so it's back in storage again.

I'm becoming a fan of cheappie art-shop acrylic paint which I used to tidy up the glove box repair. I think before and after shows some benefit.

Now for an epic low-pressure brake hose repair on Rover P5.

And, a lesson on the hazards of cats and computing.

Hi Jon,

Nice update, pity about the 360 pump but at least that is a relatively easy fix ? Have you done one before ?

I hadn't realised how big an impact the ULEZ will have, seems draconian measures to those who are enthusiasts or classic owners. How is it administered, you would think there would be allowances for those who might want to drive out of the ULEZ area for 'sunday drive' or the likes.... Hope you get something sorted, if it was me the frustration of such legislation would make me look to move somewhere else ! I think emission zones are being brought into the cities like Glasgow and Edinburgh up here but eventually I expect they will penalise all vehicles that are deemed to pollute.

I am sure the cat is liking the background warmth from the laptop !
Keep us posted
Dave

Hello Dave

Thank you for your reply. I'm going to keep my eyes open for news on the ULEZ in case there are any ways of opposing it. Do let me know if you spot anything. This site is a bit less mad than the facebook page. Anyway, the water pump is coming off and I have a spare NOS QH one which I'm hoping will fit. This is my first one on a 300 series.

Getting there Jon. I had never done a water pump on a car before but found it straightforward enough. Trickiest bit was trying to get the new pump securely pushed up against the head to compress the O ring gasket and keeping it in position while the nuts were tightened up. Also, making sure the seal for the heater pipe was properly seated and not creased when the pipe is tightened into the pump. I made sure the block was spotlessly clean and I think I used a smear of blue hylomar on the gasket. Been fine for a year now so all good!

The FB group is fine but long term the forum holds its own and is a very useful reference...long may it continue even if posts trickle in. I need to get better at sorting my photos to allow linking from my Flickr account, that is one advantage of FB, instant picture gratification....!

On the subject of ULEZ, Glasgow have now formally confirmed the LEZ for the city centre so that bans my daily driver from Glasgow city (2014 Skoda Superb 2.0 tdi).... Not that I am in Glasgow city often but I fear they will expand the zone in due course. Its going to hammer all the taxis, delivery drivers etc. If you know Glasgow, the main M8 motorway runs right through the centre, at the moment the LEZ doesn't include the M8 so I can travel through the city centre but can't come off the motorway into the city. There ain't much going on these days that is positive for the working individual....! (and certainly not for owners of classics!!).

Cheers for all that. Yes, I'll have to do a bit more cleaning up!! Lot of it's about pushing the pollution somewhere else. I read an article decades ago about how many thousands of tons of rock have to crushed up to extract uranium and we only get the rods when they come out of Vlad's subs, by popular legend ;-0 ;-0 Ta jc.

Strut collapsing on the Blue 1.7. You couldn't make it up. I wondered why I could smell burnt sausages everywhere I went. Yes, the front tyre is rubbing on the spring cup and its audible now, so that one's gone off road, too.

I had another round of cleaning up and the new pump seems to fit OK. Bit of a fiddle due to the new old gasket being very twisted due to its great age! I used some Hylomar Blue in case it helps.

The nuts and bolts were torqued up to 6 lbft which is what the Hades manual says is right for a 1.4. It said that the B19/200 values are the same as the B14 unless stated otherwise below and that's as good as it gets here, sorry ;-0
