While you're in Leuven it might be an idea to talk about moderators too? There are several V3M members with moderator privileges who don't visit this forum anymore, it might be an idea to "spread the load" of spam deletion.

But don't necessarily take that as a "Tom wants to become a mod" request

Yeah this is getting quite annoying. I've been also deleting the messages when I spot them and banning the bots but it'll get annoying after awhile.. We'd need a proper bot-defense.

At this Finnish Volvo forum (http://www.vrcf.fi/foorumi/) we've got the SMF 2.0 RC3 forum software and we have a image check-thing during registration, account has to be activated and also when posting first three messages for new user require the image-bot-check also.

Spamming has gone to a new level theres about 50 odd posts maybe more today its ridiculous

Hey guys! Yes I'm still alive, I just saw the V3M core last night... That was nice but I realized that I'm in a very very bad postion with Volvos, I almost don't know anymore what it feels driving a Volvo!!! The VW Golf VI diesel: is my daily company car (nice car to be honnest, don't kill me) and the fleet is:

Volvo C70 2001 (sleeping outside since months)
Volvo 360 GLT 1988 (stored in a garage box, not starting, electrical or fuel problem somewhere)
Volvo 360 GLT 1987 (stored in a garage box, immobilized with collapsed front strut since 2008...)
Volvo 360 GLT Millionaire 1988
Volvo 360 GLE 1985 (stored in a garage box, starting)
Volvo 340 vario 1991 (stored in a garage box, starting very difficult)
Volvo 340 vario 1984 (stored in a garage box, starting but after +/- 1 min engine cuts off + cooling system to be changed)

Not really proud about this!

About the board now, I apologize for the SPAM storm and my absence, spam was indeed worse the last months and to stop it immediately I've activated the registration approval before new members can be active, new spammers won't be able to pollute the board. Now I'll delete manually each fake member and their messages because they remain an entry for spam... When it'll be "clean" again, I'll apply a mod that worked very well in the past (additional question in the registration process) but there is still the issue that mods are gone with the regular phpBB upgrades and that's really boring... something to discuss with Chris. Tom, you know my email address, if you want to become a moderator just tell me

Just removed a good 250 members (fake members + inactive profiles after registration), it's a lot cleaner

It is really great to hear from you, I must confess that I started to get bit worried already

It is years since I drove a Volvo properly last time, short drives on yard don't count, so situation is not much better here either, something we must improve at 2011, at least I look positive for getting proper car on road again, like 2 previous years I must work harder, it will succeed

The guy is using his signature to create backlinks for other websites. Don't reply to the post, just click on the exclamation mark next to the "quote" button and "report the post". The mods will then delete.
