It is a problem none of us have yet solved (that I am aware). It is something we need to find a solution for though, all cars of this age use the same production methods so should be an answer somewhere.

I thought it would be interesting to send this update, now this is what the drive in front of my house looks like
- The red 360 GLT saloon, swiss edition, MOT is OK and the car is ready for an oldtimer registration.
- The nearly new company car, 1.5 months old Jetta, already 12.000 km done...
- A new 340 in the family, a nice '89 vario 218 metallic blue, variomatic and in quite good condition.

if anyone's interested to see my "barn find" project...
i found it earlier this year here in Holland. The car has been standing there for more than 10 years... but now it's on the road again.
This one is from 10-1983, one of the oldest 360 GLS saloons in Holland.
Here's the topic of the project. Lots of pictures, lots of dirt, lots of rust, lots of welding...

Tom S., are you still hanging around here? Any updates about your red 343 and/or the DLS?

I now recognise who you are, or at least your user name on V3C.
Is that an amazon estate I spy in the background?

Just been through the pictures. What a lot of work! Well worth it for saving one of the very first saloons though.

Yep, definitely! Have gone from 4x 300s to two now, I sold the 343 vario earlier this year and the daily GLi has been parted out and scrapped. No major update for the DLS, other than the starter being sticky after the car wasn't moved for about a year ...
Cheers
Tom

See if I can wring another year out of it? Dunno, it's a least quality used spares.
Apart from the test being more fussy with bodywork here, and the fact that it's c. €400 to tax/p.a. (Quarterly discs are available

) It might serve as Mrs P's car. Needless to say, she's mystified how I could fix it quickly given her Pug has been off the road the last 16 months.
