Your right chris, there is no stress there, I think the car bottomed out and just holed the diff casing.

Does the diff housing come away from the gearbox housing??

yup, it just bolts away from the gearbox

Careful undoing the driveshaft flange bolts! They can be a pain, even the stronger 360 ones. Nice car BTW.
