Ben, I dream of diesel-engined Cavaliers at night ;-) but they have no "Umweltplakette" unfortunately. Damn!

I wouldn't say no to an Opel Vectra GT (16V?) though:

But if it has to be Opel, I prefer these:

RWD and more oompf.

Vote me in for the 'There I Fixed It' bodge repair approach. Love the fact that it's got the stupid green sticker despite being what the general public refers to as a 'Dreckschleuder'. That'll teach them.

There is a certain amount of "Schadenfreude" to be had, when your 23 year old car gets a green sticker, and the other guy's 5-year old diesel costing tens of thousands only gets yellow ;-)

I do feel sorry for tradesmen though - particularly last year when they were all struggling to make do and along comes the govt with this grand new scheme rendering most of their vans useless.

Anyway, this problem:

needs to be tackeled first, driving around with a wheel fixed with only three studs is a bit worrying ...

Cheers

Spare axle laying around? It's not a long job to change it, but does seem a bit keen for a small problem. You can at least rebuild that one at your leasure with new brakes, bearings etc though.

No, no spare axle unfortunately :-( I have a set of studs and a wheel bearing though, I'm going to take them around to the chap who did all the work on my vario - he's going to have a go at it ...

Cheers

Rust? I didn't see any rust..

This is RUST! :D

Image

Soo.. What do I do. I go to Aukki's place and he does some of that his MIG/MAG-magic.. We didn't have any repair panels available so Aukki took out his hammer and some flat sheet metal...

Image

Looking much better already, allthough in this pic seams are unfinished etc...

Welcome to Finland, home of the rusted cars. Luckily anything can be fixed if you have enough drive and skills to fix it. :D Huge thanks to Aukki for providing his skills, space and his own time to fix this. Allthough he's way too modest when he said that he's not satisfied enough with the result, when it's more then enough for me! There's not much you could do better without proper repair panels. I'll post some pics of the finished repair also. 8)

New repair panels are available for rear wheel wells but I have not able to locate any for front.

Fuse, when you say rear wheel well panels are available, do you have a link?

Klokkerholm/NOR has inner and outer repair panels available for rear wheel wells.

Volvo has outer ones I think, I haven't asked if inner ones are availaible as OEM part.

Here are links for aftermarket Klokkerholm/NOR parts: http://www.klokkerholm.com/xProductCata ... oup=916799

all fixed now :-) I wasn't there when Rainer changed the studs, but it was an easy job apparently. No problems with the hub, as feared.

Ah yes, that looks a whole lot different! Well done aukki - how is he, he hasn't been around on the forum for a while?

It seems such a shame to scrap a car which is running so well "just" because of rust. We're going to see if we can split the work up, have some done in Romania, some in Germany.

Klokkerholm/NOR (I believe it's just Klokkerholm now, they've bought up NOR) is the panel supplier for Volvo 300s. Sills, windscreen surround repair panels, wheel arch repair panels, front spring seats, wings - there are a lot of their products in my cars :-)

I would also like ones for the front inner, its the only part I can't really attempt myself. I have some recovered parts that only need a slight repair.

Hadrian's supply most of the same parts in the UK, but I see Klokkerholm do a few more, useful to know.

Windscreen replacement

OK, part 1 (or maybe 0.5 beta :? ) of getting this car ready for the MOT. It now has a new windscreen, and the a-pillar has been patched.

I picked up a replacement windscreen in the summer. It was an 800km round trip to east Germany (but that's nothing really, picking the doors up from filthyjohn was a 1100 km round trip from London ;-))
Image

The crack, increasing in length every day:
Image

The borrowed special tool, to remove the window surround trim (the only part I did myself  ):
Image

Push the trim connector thingy piece up with a screwdriver:
Image

Slide the special tool underneath the trim, the seal is squashed apart at the same time:
Image

Cracked trim (has been for years, wasn't me!)
Image

Up we go:
Image

Top half done:
Image

... and the bottom half off too:
Image

Then off to the garage, and this is the result:

New window, NOS window seal:
Image

A-pillar. They didn't do a great job of the painting, but never mind:
Image

I actually prefer it "de-chromed" but I have a feeling the trim pushes the seal apart a little, thus giving the window a better fit, so I'd better put it back (maybe one day some black GLT-spec trim will come my way). Would washing up liquid do any harm, to help squash it back into the seal?

Cheers

Tom

How about spraying the chrome if you like the black? Been meaning to do this for a while but better to wait until warmer times
