i'm not so sure - if it was just the torque tube then it shouldnt happen when being towed whilst in neutral..

The sound he describes is similar. I'll try jacking up the car and turning the wheels. Won't really know till I get started, but it sounds like I will be able to fix it. Might need some serious heat treatment to shift the bolts!
My old car will be available for savage stripping once I've finished!

Good luck mate, that site is pretty comprehensive and helpful for replacing the torque tube. It is a relatively common problem (more so than a dead 'box) - the white 360GLT that was on Ebay sounded like it had the same symptoms as your new car - which everyone agreed was highly likely to be a torque tube problem. I'm certain the new owner of that car is lurking around here, maybe he would be able to provide some useful advice

Ok, i only saw it under my old 340, where it is different. Never took a close look to the shaft under the 360.

You'll be surprised! Mine's only done about 38K and it needed a new clutch, fine now.

If you don't want to mess around, just replace the entire drivetrain

Lot of work though...and you may not find out what's up with it.
cheers

I pulled out the gearbox today. Splines seem fine and the torque tube seems ok. The gear box appears to be fine too when turned by hand but might change both to be safe. Lots more work left!
