Am I just the only one who's a little bit saddened to see a tidy Mk2 being stripped out and turned into a drift car?

The project itself looks to be a fine one, but given it has a nice redblock in it already it's a shame (to me) that the engine choice is not a Volvo 2.3 16v or a 2.3 Turbo. If it was a Mk3 1.4 or 1.7 I'd say go for it as they're still relatively common and it does look to be a sympathetic set of mods, but then again I suppose if I was that bothered about saving Mk2's I should have bought it.

Exactly - I used to be more for saving mk2s but it turns out that there's just not enough of us to save them all. Plus as long as it's not being matt-blacked, ragged and dumped, I'm all for it

Maybe the only one who has said it  But I don't want to get into that discussion however, as it's up to whoever bought it!
All I'm saying is good job it's not a 3 door

Hope the project turns out well, interesting to see different engines being used.

As long as the car's being appreciated and not crushed and sent to China to make iron girders it's a win/win situation. Would be nice if any good parts/trim removed are saved/sold/passed on as they are getting hard to find!

Can I have the parcel shelf if you still have it please? I'm after one to fit the early rear window pattern for my MK 1 project.

Good luck with the project, nice wheels!

EDIT:

Just remembered you put a thread up for the parts a while ago  It didn't know it was a MK2 and a GLS at the time! Silver wheel trims still there??

Im of the opinion now:

If you want to save it, buy it.

If you dont, then its someone elses car.

I can see the coolness in standard and modded cars, but its not up to me to see what goes where.

Just my two pence.

Haha i wondered when this would be brought up :D

I look after my motors and ill be spending cash on keeping it tidy. ive kept the trim i want to put back in although end of the day this will be a track car although im aiming for grip bit the odd drift day so plans to overhaul brakes and suspension get some soft rubber and then see what happens.

I have no problem with it at all, and I'll be interested to see how it pans out...I'd just make two comments...

...I don't really understand why people have such a hard-on for removing the interior, and stripping out soundproofing even more so! I can understand swapping out the seats for something more supportive, but the rest weighs almost nothing. At least you're saving it for "later" :)

...I kinda hope the SR20 > 360 swap doesn't become the next craze, as there's an equally capable engine which bolts right in. The F7s make sense, as they're a bolt in (and the original engines are fairly shite...sm56), and it's fun for someone to try everything once (or even twice), but I don't see the point in ditching Volvo power, when it's such a versatile and cheap tuning platform. It's not that I'm objecting to your car, don't get me wrong...I just hope it isn't the "next big thing", just because Nev did it, and he's a legend. The redblocks are ignored enough in this country as it is!

Anyway, keep us posted on the updates, and I hope to see the car soon :)

cheers

James

I have to agree with James on this one. I've driven my car lots of times without the interior and really the car doesn't become any faster without it. Just more noisy and it feels like you are sitting at the engine bay. Race cars don't have interiors this is true. But main reason for this isn't a weight saving. Race cars don't have interiors because interior is a major fire hazard if you crash the car.

One fellow moderator of this Finnish Volvo community, VRCF, has 829hp in his 960 (B230 based engine) and he's got full interior with stereo system in the car. :D

I also agree with the engine part.. Redblocks seem to be quite underrated engines there. It's a shame as all the things stated above are true.

But this doesn't mean I would have problems with projects like these. Not at all! It's a good thing we've got variety in the project section even though I have my own views about things. ;)

the wheels should be in these pic's somewhere lol : http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 7ca&type=1

I agree about stripping it, my last 340 was stripped it was so noisy and cold all the time....BIG MISTAKE! lol

my solution.... I bought a 360 + 2.3 Turbo = comfort and lots of power to play with

cheers

Adam.
