I think the main thing would be to do lots of research in advance. You'll need a bellhousing adaptor, etc...not off-the-shelf parts.

The first generation S/V40s had two different diesel lumps...one rated at around 100bhp, and the later common rail one at 115bhp, which I believe are both Renault units. Are you saying the manufacturer's figures were conservative?
The second generation (S40/V50...and C30/C70) have the ~136bhp Citroen/Peugeot/Ford 2.0 16v unit (or the unreliable 110bhp 1.6 16v).

I am really interested in doing this. If i had the time and space to have the two cars and not worry about how long it would take I would be doing it. I was on salvage site that had a d5 s60 on for £200 starting bid with a 3 hour auction. That would have been a great donor. Ye, the biggest thing will be electronics. I was reading about a compnay that put and TDV6 into a P38 rangie, took them 4 years as they had to re-write the whole ecu. Modern engines won't run right without the interior etc, they get confused and go in limp home mode. We had an I6 from a freelander on a rig where I used to work, that was never happy!

If you're willing to transplant the full loom, it'll work just fine.

You can control CR diesels from aftermarket management, but it requires lots of processing power (multiple injections per cycle), which needs a high-end system. The Penta (D3-163) management is probably the neatest solution. Or just gut an S60.

As much as this is going to pain me saying it...

I think Speedy has this mainly sussed out. If the bigger power S40 lump is the same block that must be the way to go, you take the current Valver knowledge and apply it rather than re inventing the wheel then, for a more powerful than GLT and super MPG beastie.

Prop is still a problem. Still curious about the mo' power claim. I'd also avoid common rail if there's an option to do so. Injectors at £200 each? Ouch.

dont knock of the little diesels just feed them loads of boost and fuel :D :D theres a 1.5 isuzu in a viva running just 14psi on a little gt15 turbo and more fuel gettting 105hp and 140 ft/lbs so with plently more boost at least 30psi it should make so decent figures and in a little 340 i think that would be amazing

oh and its still does 55MPG :P :P :P what more could you ask

I don't think it'd do 55mpg at 2 Bar of boost :) Or necessarily last that long...

Best part of 150bhp, 50+mpg and perfect reliability should be easy enough from one of the 1.9-ish units, though...or probably the 1.7 Izuzu lump.

That wasnt running 2 bar at 55mpg but I think it would be close if you drive good and it would also be in the lower tax braket still :-)

Sure...I meant that if you wound the boost up it would have a pretty major effect on MPG...depending on whether or not you used the power, of course!

Didn't realise they were below the tax threshold....hmm....interesting! That is an incentive.

Drunk. Nothing on telly?

Reasons for vandalism are many and varied.

Let's get back on topic.

Some people just have no respect for anything and that is as far as it goes :(
