P.S Mac, i cant use a VDO sender as it doesnt fit into my fuel tank

This mk1 tank sender with the three terminals is brand new, i only plugged it into the wires and didnt put it in the tank, so its £30 posted if you want it

If i go back to smiths clocks the sender still wont work though, my senders broken, i need to replace it, its not a problem with the gauges

At the moment i've got a VDO cluster in the car, with a mk2 smiths sender thats broken, the new one i've got is the 3 terminal one that i hoped would work, but it doesnt look like it does to me. Im not changing the cluster as i rather like my rev counter Unless someones got a smiths cluster with the rev counter? there just uber cool

I'm fairly certain that Smiths gauges, regardless of MY, require the same resistance across the range.

The only difference between the senders on MY79-82 and MY83-85 is whether or not they have an additional terminal for the low fuel/temp warning lights.

So with a MY83-85 clockset, you could use the older fuel tank / temp senders and omit using the spare terminal (Obviously it wouldn't work the other way round - early Smiths clocks/later Smiths senders)

Unless someones got a smiths cluster with the rev counter?

Aha, now this sounds like a plan Early mk1 sender (i write mk1 and mk2 as i dont know the crossover years etc etc) with a set of rev counter mk2 gauges, and in theory, the early fuel sender will work with the mk2 gauges?

If one of the terminals on the mk1 sender is to turn the low fuel level light on, is there no way this can be bridged to another one of the connectors so it still works? or am i talking more rubbish

Yep you're talking balls. No connection required to the sender switch as if you look at P62 on that PDF mentioned above, the warning light business is dealt with by the MFU.

Ahh i didnt see the pictures and extra text to start with. Well, thanks for clearing that up. Im now (sort of) on the hunt for the early rev counter cluster when i can afford them, that should get it all working Thanks for the help, and patience
