Started the radiator swap.....bumper etc all came off very nicely no broken brackets etc...
This car has always had a wee surprise or two when doing jobs on it....and this time we have a nicely disintegrated radiator mount to deal with...doh...!
Not sure if this is a common problem but more likely due to prolonged weeping of coolant from the rad....anyway, I'm making up a new bracket to be fitted and the local area will be rust treated before I progress further. Found my ambient sensor wiring loom tucked up under the air box and the hole for the sensor so thats another thing ready to sort out while the bumper is off....
A good coat of waxoyl will follow before fitting the bumper.
Next to be stripped off is the water pump.... looks straightforward enough....debating whether to put the new gasket on dry, or with a very light smear of blue hylomar....
Have you been up in the garage loft yet Jon ? :D Keep me in mind !
Cheers Dave

Hello, loft, no sorry not yet - it's on the todo list. I need to check on the instrument panel. Was that everything? Just need to be doublo-sure the new renix works, post-lockdown, then I'll send the 411, too. I upgraded the RAM on my laptop but I fried the chips on the wifi card with some dodgy static on my fingers.

Wireless card sorted (£2 on the bay). I'll try to get up to the roof tomorrow ;-0

Thanks Jon ! No rush at all, just when I was thinking about gauges reminded me of what might be lurking in your loft ! :D
I guess anything along those lines would be of interest if you weren't needing them, drop me a PM when ready :)

Good your laptop is sorted....I am about ready to buy a replacement laptop here... :?
Odd problem with the power button, can take many presses for it to finally fire up....could just be the button but not sure. When its been on for a while and you shut it down, a single press brings it on again, but overnight it takes 20+ presses to respond? Its got a brand new battery in it. Also, when on video calls it will often suddenly shut down and need restarting, not sure if it is overheating....its an 8 year old Acer, probably done its time. Seems like a minefield with all the specs available these days...!

Might get a bit more done to the 360 over the weekend...
Cheers Dave

Sorry left me mince pies downstairs. Its upside down isn't it.

I can't remember what I promised to look for, sorry. This doesn't look like the oil temperature thing you mentioned in another thread.

Ah, thats an ambient temp gauge, looks like a 6 dial dash with an econometer gauge in the other corner assuming it is complete.
Would be quite interested if its going spare and you might consider selling it, they work off a small plug in sensor usually located behind the bumper to pick up the air temperature.

Ideally I am after an oil temperature gauge for my centre console, any gauges like the pic (not mine) would be of interest.

Thanks for taking the time to look...! :)

Hello, the other corner is just blanked-off. I'm pretty sure I don't have the oil thing, sorry. I didn't realise it went below the radio. Oh well, I'll keep an eye out. I can ring up the New Forest blokey tomorrow and ask him, but lots of his stuff went AWOL, as I mentioned before!! I will try because you never know though!! He usually tries to sell you a car instead and last time it was a saloon :? :|
Cheers, Jon.C.

I forgot to say my 360 passed the MOT with no advisories, first MOT in 9 years.

Rad replacement completed the other week after some messing around with a new rad bracket.
New hoses from Mac are excellent. The Skandix pump isn't the best bit of kit, needed a bit of fettling with a file on the casting to get it to sit right due to a small casting boss obstructing where the heater pipe bolts on.....thats mass produced pattern parts for you... Luckily I had already acquired the pump and some other bits before the ridiculous Skandix shipping price hike....
New Volvo coolant added and a minor weep at the hose joint to the pump dealt with and we are all good to go. The ominous smell of weeping hot coolant has disappeared... :D
Been doing a fair bit of rust proofing/waxoyling etc while I had good access to that area, crossmember etc.
Bumper still to be fitted but I may hold fire as I am doing the ambient/econ gauges soon and need to fit a sensor.
Next jobs will be oil change all round...engine/box/diff....
Whether I do the oils before or after an MOT just depends on available time in the next few weeks....should be on the road next month with a bit of luck. After that its probably a trip to the local exhaust fabricator for some stainless steel joy....!
Cheers Dave

A friend made an aquisition a couple of weeks ago which has given me a bit of a kick up the ass to get on a bit with my old girl. So i dragged her out to check all of the engine bay wiring after i swapped looms as i now had something to compare to.

So i did this thing where i connected the battery and made me an ignition spider (cbf finding the key).

Now, i got a mixed bag;
Attempt one: connected the starter wire, and she cranked two or three times (i knew it spun free beforehand). I tried to crank it again and got nothing. Not even a click from the solanoid. *didn't try crank it here on out

Attempt two: connected the power wires. Got the "seat belt warning" light on the dash, and the hazard triangle on solid, unless i turned the lights on, at which point it went away.

Attempt three: swapped the cluster plugs around. Had solid power on the rear fog light lamp , pressing the hazard switch made the rear window defroster light and one side indicator flash.

Attempt four: closed the door and went inside.

Seems like i have some wiring gremlins to track down 🤔
Also tee'd up an ex-panelbeater mate to come around and have a gander at the rust in the next few weeks.

Well the '21 goals are slowly getting there.
Rad etc all done and leak free.
Econ and ambient gauges fitted and working after a bit of messing around with an ambient sensor. One sensor I acquired last year was kaput but luckily I found another original which works fine. Nice to have no blank spaces in the cluster.
Flew through an MOT yesterday which was a tad nerve racking...
First MOT in my ownership due to the covid extension and then sticking it on SORN until now. The garage was excellent, got a good look below which was an interesting perspective. Overall very solid, some wee patches of rust here and there that some treatment will sort out. I did have a look up at the gear linkage and torque tube area and hope that I don't have that nasty job to deal with in the future...? I noticed the pump pre-filter has some debris in it so that will need attending. I dare say the tank will have rust accumulation inside but it looks like a b'strd of a job to change a tank! Will do some trawling on here for changing these pre-filters. The engine bay filter has been changed recently but I will plan to do both in the near future. So I am back on the road, all is well (for the moment!) ....
Next jobs, all oils, probably re-do diff cover gasket with a Mac gasket, and then look at the fuel filters.... Cheers!

This is the filter you need

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... F703737747

The original ones are NLA so you have to fit one of these, I'd get a metre of 12mm internal diameter fuel injection hose too to replace the hose from the tank to filter and to the pump. Just done both filters and the pump on mine as the tank is clogged with rust, been sat for about 2 months as I CBA to sort it at the moment.
