Not sure about the classic stuff, but I'm having to have a rethink rallying Kar, seemingly the stuff I'm doing only allows 4 forward facing beams, so not sure Kar actually fits regs atm.

Just tape up/cover the fogs Chris and you'll be fine. This will also save them from getting cracked on white roads! I've removed mine completely as the holes are being used as air intakes.
If I was you I'd also put the grille lamps on a separate switch, otherwise when you have to switch off auxillary lighting (in quiet zones) you'll just be left with dip beam which is crap!

That is a truely impressive car - who's going to build one of those back axles then?!
Sorry if it's a stupid question - but why did they put the radiator in the back? (other than as an excuse to build those mean looking side vents)

I think that is because in the front it gets hit with rocks and gravel.

One stray rock thru the rad and your event is over. The back of the car is a much safer place for such delicate things!

doesnt 0 - 100 in 3.2 s sound way too quick??
remember the 242 turbo tourers had much more power and only slightly more weight, they were supposed to do 0 - 100 in 6 s~
maybe the rallycross 343 has really low top speed ?? but then it would need some damn awesome traction

Rally cross cars have really short ratios. Top speed of that one with Renault engine was only somewhere ~170km/h and first gear wasn't used much (launches were usually made in 2nd gear with 4500 launch rpm). In comparison to Group-A 240 which could exceed 250km/h with proper ratios. Group-A 240 was a track car so it is not possible to compare that to a rally cross car straight forward. And GrpA cars didn't had so much more power than 343 rally cross car (GrpA cars had from 270hp to 380hp) and it was more heavier. (from 1065kg to 1100kg)
More power doesn't always mean better acceleration. For example this 4WD 343 rally cross car from Finland had 380hp and it went from 0 to 100km/h in 3.7s. Top speed was 176km/h and it wen't there in 7.6s.

But then again there were Group-B rally cars which were much quicker than those. Lancia Delta S4 went from 0 to 100km/h in 2.3s which is pretty damn quick.. Though it had minimum 480hp, 4WD, tube chassis and a kevlar body... Those were crazy things. Dangerous for spectators and drivers but still a golden era of rallying.

apart from the likes of amazon's etc the only other volvo/daf ive seen is a DAF 66 Marahon 1.3 Coupe. its a very nice car getting 80bhp@3,000rpm with rebuilt vario transmission featuring variable diameter pulleys acting as a lsd, variable drive ratios 14.22:1 to 3.6:1
Daf's rallye sport base in Eindhoven was bought by the DAF owners club when volvo took over and they STILL have a warehouse full of goodies for sale to club members !!
wish it was like that for 300 bits
