Gavin, I can probably put you in touch with someone with an econ gauge for sale! The six dial dash looks perfect, they should have all been that way, a four dial dash just doesn't look right now!

Yes, it was telling me to change up, it seems to only kick in after around 1500 rpm and doesnt care what gear you're in (except for 5th.) If it thinks you'll get better economy it comes on.

I am not sure how it all works but I am surprised it still works in neutral. sm14 Though, come to think of it I may well have been in first with my foot on the clutch.

I now want the external temp gauge! But I think i'll pass on the tunnel gauge cluster.
:EDIT: Just re-read... Don't you know theres a lot of torque in these engines? They dont need to be revved past 1600

Cheers

Having had a nose at the green book about these last night, they will come on in neutral, and only not come on when you are in fifth. The renix decides when it comes on, and as long as the fifth gear switch isn't tripped, the light will come on. So it doesn't look possible to change when the light comes on :(

I had a change gear indicator in my old Scirocco GTX - I hated it, Always felt it was nagging me and trying to make me feel guilty for driving the way I like to.

I'd like an ammeter and oil pressure dials - useful early warning devices. When I was a fisherman we used to check oil pressures religiously. An ambient temp would be useful too actually, especially in winter... Anyone got any going spare? :D

Ronnie - a quick note about ambient temp gauges for your car! You'll have to search for a Smiths one unforunately, as you'll have an earlier dash - designated by a harsher corner piece and different style 'degrees C' letter. There was one on ebay not long ago - I think Adam was getting it for someone on here.

nagh a c-plate 360 will be a vdo gauge cluster.

as for putting the light on at different rpm - well its set up to come on when its more economical to change up. if you're flooring it, the light wont come on till ~4,500 rpm, in my experiance. if you wanted it to come on later, it would be possible - according to my basic tests the rev gauge appears to send out a constant-ish current with a voltage that alters (my multimeter picked up > 50 volts on it when revving high). just stick something that detects (say) >40 volts on that line, and AND it with the default change up connection..

incidentally, it was my wish a while ago (in a 360 glt) to have an econometer, fit a diesel dashboard cutout (which doesnt have a choke light - instead it has a coil light) and wire up the coil light to the change-up light, cos a twirly symbol could kinda be a change up.. if you see what i mean?? it'd give that light a use anyways..
