Now what is the best move. Switch handles or switch locks.

(I will probally have it done before anyone replies with advice)

I have been taking photos, so can post a full "how to" ast the end.

now its off you might as well put your original lock barrel in the new handle, at least the door and ignition key will match

but how do you remove the lock!! from mine.

the other thing to do is switch the chrome handle onto mine. The problem is the metal studs holding the handle on have been flattened likea poprivet on one end so, i imagine i wuld have to drill/file them off. But then i would have to make somthing to replace them with,

Id rather just remove things easily, but i havnt seen how the lock pulls off the rest.

I think the lock barrel is held in by a circlip-like item, but I've never looked at it in detail. I'd definitely swap the lock to a new handle, not replace the handle section on your original.

cheers

you just have to punch out a small pin at the back of the lock barrel, then the lock will drop out frontways.

all done, new handle on car.

I was screwing on the door latch and had a few more things to finalise, anyway, i let the door slam shut at this point :D.

Now i cant open it again!!

I dont expect any of oyu guys to be able to help, it is quite a predicament because i cannot undo the latch as the door is shut and blocking the screws.

blah blah blah :)

Is the handle in the door? And is the door card off?
If the handle is in the door but not screwed in, can you remove it enough to push the long rod that opens the door????
Cheers Adam

THANK$%^

all fixed, new handle etc.

everybody, do yourself a favour, if you ever stick the door catch back on incorrectly, DONOT shut the door.

There is a knob on the back of the catch, which goes through to the door opening mechs, all you have to do is lift this knob to release the catches 'deadlock'. Unfortunantly for me, instead of this knob being in the middle where the 'open door ' lever strikes it, my catch release knob was stuck behind it.

Only after i figured out that this must be the case, could i start trying to release it, hitting a screwdriver at it from the bottom etc (you cant see it).

it was an Fing pain.

most is good now :)

donot shut door prematurely!!!
