Just a quick note on triggering...

As we've now found out, a 240 block-mount dizzy from the mid 80s onwards will come with the hall effect trigger, but minus the weights. Nick and Chesh weren't to know this at the time, but there was no need to dismantle an early dizzy.

If you're using a 360 or 940 flywheel, they have 60-2 pattern trigger marks machined in, which MS can use as it's trigger, rather than using the hall effect trigger in the dizzy.

cheers

so basically if a car had renix and a flywheel with markings for the Renix for timing... you can use this flywheel plus a flywheel sensor ( any type? ) for megasquirt?

foggy... ive asked some questions under the post "manifold studs help" you have refitted manifolds? ie your R kit? would appreciate your advice....

If your going to use flywheel triggering using the 60-2 flywheel you will need an extra daughter card for MS. The signal from the VR sensor needs cleaning up before being given to MS as an Input.

I will eventually move to this system when i have time to install a 60-2 Flywheel.

This will allow me to run coil pack and allow me to get rid of all the mechanical distributors and seal up the engine to prevent oil leaks which are only from the dizzy's.

so basically megasquirt can be used as a replacement for the Renix?

Is it necessary to have a ignition map from volvo to use first?

I hear the 1.7 has an unusual ignition map......

Anyone know how to get the ignition maps for the 1.4 or 1.7? or for any renix powered car?

thanks for the info about the flywheel!!

hello,........ me again...

The VR sensor? thats the flywheel sensor?

Could you use an ABS sensor or a flywheel sensor from any car? ABS sensors work the same as the flywheel sensor? Does the flywheel sensor get the rpm signal from the flywheel teeth?

cheers

360 has not 60-2 pattern it is something like 44-2-2, but you can use stock vr-sensor also called CPS Crank position sensor from B200K Renix for example, then set megasquirt to 22-2 wheel setup and ignition divider to 2 then it should work, you will need to build one small circuit for this and you can use B200K Renix distributor.

You will need to get also Bosch ignition module and ignition coil that is meant to be used with electronic ignition.

Circuit that is needed to be build:

Megasquirt'n Spark Extra, read bosch module section from here:
http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/setup-msns.html

So you can use renix flywheel thing or Hall sensor or VR-pickup in distributor.

I don't think that you need daughter card anymore, only that small circuit is needed and with V3 board it is already included on board.

If I would have enough money for these parts, 50-80 euros at max, then I would build it, but currently I barely can get something to eat :(

This is ignition map for B200K renix:

1.7 may have different map, but anyway that may be a starting point for tuning it.

It's not 60-2? Ah balls! I was going on an LH2.4 flywheel and a visual inspection of the 360 one...they certainly look alike! Bummer.

Flywheel is something like 30-2-30-2 but I can't remember and its too cold to go out and count the one in the driveway :)

Anyway have been continuing to log stuff: Here's a slightly more interesting one.

The accel bins need a slight adjustment, you can see the AFR going slightly lean when the throttle was pressed. I've tweaked the accell enrichment bins and we'll see if it makes a difference.

Cool :)

I seriously have to take a look at how this thing works sometime - seems ultra smooth, and there's only so much poor running a guy can put up with (he says, thinking that installing EFI and MS will be easier than rebuilding and tuning his carbs) :)

that'd be this one:

Again the accel enrichments needed doing, but they're already much better than that now.

You don't need to go to cold weather to check it again, you have already checked it earlier ;)

Thought I had, thanks Jani :) so it was 40-2

Damn you Renix pattern for looking so craftily like 60-2!

You wanna see the pattern on a B280E!
