Your right I know,

It just's a question of perspectives really.

Here, people think it's cold if it snows down to 100metres.

In Finland, it's porbably cold if the snow is 5 metres deep!

I dont think people really have a problem with Carb icing here. Hard to do when it rarely drops below 1degrees (Unless youre at the snowfields...)

Carb freezing in here depends so much what kind of car do you have.
My 340 with 1,7 renault engines carb has been frozen when i drove in highway..umm..many times :)
But there are certain liquids for antifreeze..
I dont know much about Norway (NasoNex can  ) but in Finland is really snowy winter from November to April. And sometimes is freezing as hell (-20 to -35!!)

But that is for a carb engine. I was talking about the injection version.

There is that tube coming from the exhaust manifold.

That goes to some sort of valve in front of the airbox. This seems to mess up the air flow going into the airbox.

But how does it work anyway? When is cold or warm air coming in?

Think ill go for a K&N filter... :)
-25?

Jesus!

So what you really need is a pre-heater pre-heater then? (And maybe a fire under the car to stop it becomming a iceblock!)
25 degrees, Oh Yeah. Norway rocks.

I do not need any heating as lpg does not need heated air. The fuel is heated by water :D

Some cars are very sensitve to ingnition. Dai can only make vickys car backfire in two ways -
fitting them leads the wrong way or sometime after pressure washing the engine.
240's are a little more sensitive and will ocasionaly bckfire with just worn igintion or lean mixture. I'm running a Jetex air filter and all is well.
If you spend a bit more money and go for a multi point system then any backfires will not do damage.

Yep cars running lpg mixer systems will backfire at some point. If retaining the original air box then we fit pressure relif valves. I personaly like the sound and aslo on some cars it can resolve "ram air".
On cars such as range rovers most ppl notice improved performance - cant say you notice it on a volvo engine but at least you dont have to keep changing the filter.

You wanna hear how often my car does it :D Must get the wideband fitted and tune it properly. You're right, redblocks are very prone to doing it when running lean.

cheers

Can't answer how it works, but can say it made no difference in Melbourne on my 245 (B23E). Again, MAJOR temperature differnce to you (Warm summers day is between +25 and +45...) But dont know why you want hot air going in there.

Mine started to decay so just ripped the thing off and left the airbox as is.

Have you tried taking it off? Just to see.. Maybe gutting the valve bit too if thats easy to put back.

The hot air pipe is only realy needed on carb engine in cold climate. Fuel injection cars will be fine when cold without. It is there for emissions reasons.
