Yeah, I'm more worried about Pakistan than Iran. The authorities have been quite helpful though, according ot the guy organsinig it all, so we might end up with an escort. Otherwise, does one car count as a convoy?Ronnie wrote: I guess that means going through South Pakistan too? - that's the most dangerous part of the trip. Iran is quite a disciplined country with a very high profile police/military. Rural backwaters of Pakistan can be pretty sketchy though... Especially with what's going on politically in the world these days.
Basically, you're brave to take this on! Will you be in convoy?

Perhaps you should consider replacing windows with Lexan and install some 8mm thick metal sheets to doors if you are going to some rough areas
I remember not so long ago when some ppl I knew did business trips to russia, mostly it was ok, some extra money needed to bribe police, but usually there was no problems, however if one did go there with new shiny car and got to wrong area he was then in trouble, usually got robbed and if even tried to fight back it wen't sad way, but that was quite rare.
I guess it has changed now as time has passed.
Nah, it will be fine, mostly there is living quite normal ppl as in here, they hare different habits and such, but mostly normal ppl. Then there is some of these crazy groups, but so it is in Spain and Egypt too.
Anyway I would suggest to get that car to look old during trip or then really get that escort, it screams attention now

If current world climate doesn't sort itself out before it all happens, I may well take a small detour... and do a round trip of Europe instead
Don't tell Nick though... he might still wanna go the planned route.

Interesting one this...I was pretty happy to get out of my colleague's Focus after a couple of hundred miles in it. Nessy has better seats, a much better ride, sharper handling...probably does better MPG too - I clocked over 50mpg over 100 miles from it on Tuesday. Ok, so it IS slower...5lab wrote:you should really get out of your 300 and drive a different modern car

No FORD badge, No FORD mechanicals and no FORD bland bodywork
I was talking to a friend of mine who always buys Fords and the only reason he stays with them is the heated front screen , go figure !!!!

considering all new volvos are really fords, and your volvo has a renault heart, not sure you can really talk
additionally, if you've ever had a heated front screen, you'll know how damn good it is. no ice scraping. ever.

Off-topic, but whilst we're on the subject of F***s:
The top referrer to my 'website' is always v3m. Not surprising as I only really use the space to hold picture of Volvo 300s. However, since March the #2 referrer has always been www.focusforum.de. What's that all about then? Do German F*** F**** drivers have a secret yearning for a car with character?
And why I was getting hits from scooterforum.com in June I will never know.

Focus is small, I fit better to my 300, Focus has no feeling at steering wheel, only some spring like thing that pulls wheel to center with strenght that exceeds any other feeling from wheel so great that it seems like steering wheel is not connected to wheels at all.
Focus is cold at winter, it has bad performance but still it drinks a lot and what was idea of putting lock to hood so you need to open it with key?!?
Oh yes, also those bad seats and really annoying suspension, clutch and brakes has no feel at all, but are so sensitive that you would need to drive without shoes. Engine (1,8l zetec) is so weak that you need 2k rpm to get started or thing just stalls, between 2k-6k+ has no any difference in power, it goes as bad no matter what revs are, but under that it feels like moped engine, there is no low end grunt at all, except if you keep throttle floored, that make parking bit annoying.
Then you really can't see out from thing, firstly head is on roof, if you like to see traffic light above you need to lean forward, A-pillars block any size of truck to be seen so you really need some acrobatics to be able to really see what is happening around you, specially in station wagon you can't see where you are reversing, there is tiny peep hole at back which they call window, but you can see so little trough that, that you need to actually get out from car to see there is no poles anywhere near.
And mirrors, when they are turned so much that they will go, you see in corner of mirror bit of road behind you, but mostly it is car sides that you see, but nothing more.
So for woman which has technical ability of 0 and who is no taller than 160cm that car may be rather fine, but rest can stay away from it
I find my 300 much more pleasant to drive, only thing that is better in that ford is road noise, but wind noise was about same.
This experience is based to 1,8l Focus from 1998 only 97000km done, I drove it few thousand kilometers, roads had ice, snow, gravel, tarmac and seson was from spring to late autumn/winter. Car was equipped with traction control and A/C which seemed not to be too good either, front of cabin was cold so your hand and foot were freezing while you head sweating, this was after A/C was repaired, before it did not work at all, great quality.
It just was not car for me, sure there is users that find it fine, but not for me, it does not make car crap for everyone if I find it crap for me so same is with 300, if you don't like it stay away and enjoy you Ford, but STFU about 300 which won't clearly fit for you, you traitor
