Not long now-there are 2 Volvo Amazon's in the historic section and me and Bilbo in the moderns. That's 4 Volvo's out of 45 car entry-come on lads let's whip sum ass
Mal de nav for me after several stops for the passenger to heave we handed the cards in at mtc3
Bilbo got round despite 12 mins in a ditch after a wrong slot
Think his computer blew up so he'll be back soon with his report.
Don't know what it's like your way for nav's Carl but we really struggle up here-wish it was preplot but plot and crash seems the order of the day up here
Due to the terrain most Southern events are plot and bash, but there are a few preplot and a few with a mixture of the 2. Luckily I have a nav that likes plot n bash, so doesnt really affect me

So if you're in Scotland and see us toot and I'll hoy the V's back muttering to the nav ,"what's their f^$%in' problem"
thats if your nav doesnt chuck up again and you make it to the finish
unlike myself who gets a small write up in the national press for finishing in top 10

Cheeky
Tis indeed a twisted world when you get a mention for 10th in your backyard and ditchin' it - when a solid 9th in a foreign country(is Scotland classed as foreign?) gets nowt but your name in the results

only coz you had a quality nav [me ]!!
define ditchin it plz coz getting your back wheels stuck in a ditch after trying to do a 180 on a road that is 2ft wider than your car isnt what i would call "ditching" what i would say it was crashing into a ditch and at least scratching or bending a panel and since i did neither......
was it not you parked 20mtrs away from a passage control thinking it was a time control fools

Question chaps....from what you say, and my (probably relatively tame) introduction courtesy of Chris.....this rallying business looks like a hell of a lot of fun. I'm planning to build this mk1 R-Sport replica with a view to using it on track days, hill climbs / sprints, etc....but rallying seems like it will involve significantly more 'danger' to the car, and I don't really want to bollocks up a tidy mk1 just to have a bit of fun.
Sooo....question is.....is the 'risk' to the car such that it's worth picking up an average-condition mk3 and not caring too much about damage, or will I be fine taking a 'pride and joy' car for a thrash in the country? I'd obviously do what I can to work over the mk3, but keep it to transferable stuff, so anything likely to be damaged isn't valuable. I realise people run early escorts worth tens of thousands, but they might just be mad
As the signs say" motorsport is dangerous"- applies to all forms in varying degrees.
If your mk1 R sport thing is running twin sidedraughts you'd better get your skates on young man the rules change on 01/01/07 for road rallies and they're no longer eligible
As for hillclimbs- my personal oppinion is they are incorrectly geared, too heavy,pi$$ poor without lsd and woefully underpowered.
I know nothing of sprints other than you spend all day mucking about to complete next to no mileage.
Going round and round in circles does not appeal to me but I believe it's comparatively cheap.
If you are concerned about damage I would recommend placing it in a museum.
Sounds like the best bet for rallying it to take something not too special, and not too 'mint', and not worry about the odd scrape and bang along the way to having some fun
