Didnt get chance to say to you on Saturday, but if you haven't done already give the new head a clean out - just flushing it through with some oil would do the trick. Of course a full decoke and valve grinding would be better if you have the time, to make sure she purrs like a kitten when you've finished
Anyway, back to the point, it was raining when me and Pete were taking it apart, so a little bit of water got it in, and then it didn't have the rocker cover on for the journey home and was sat in my dirty car! Unlikely anything bad would happen but better to be safe than sorry!

Yeah, don't have the time for all that! I'll give it a flush through with some oil tomorrow though, thanks.

Yeah, it was proper car maintenance weather when Carl came over! We even replaced an rubber exhaust hanger on Fioner in the rain just for a laugh! We decided it would be easier for us to lift the engine with the head off, as there were only two of us and we all know how high the lip is on the boot of a 300.
The bolts in the head are pretty damn tight too, breaker bar for the win, aye Carl!

1/2" 6 point 14mm socket is pretty much an essential tool for doing head bolts! Do any of you guys have a spare B200 head I could pilfer?

Depends in what condition you want one!! I guess Nick's will be spare, unless he has other plans for it.

Failing that Pete, might you be looking to sell a complete engine? I should probably work on the unit which is in the car, but there's downtime to consider and all...

If I was you Nick, I would take the extra time and dismantle the head properly, and get the thing skimmed at an engineering works, cos then you'll know that its gonna seal properly. They'll degrease it for you as well so you won't need to do much cleaning up and the skimming process will remove all the old burs of head gasket material off.
It'll cost you about 35-40 quid ish and is well worth the money IMO. If you're feeling really keen I would get some grinding paste and gently lap the valves into their seats again too. You MIGHT get away without going anything, but IMO not worth the chance.

Trouble is, I don't really have the time or money to do that
The new head is now sitting on the block, I still need to remove the two extra inlet manifold bolts that are present in the Injection head, and decide if either of the sets of head bolts are re-usable - haynes suggests they are, anyone tried it?
