It's good isn't it! Mine costs me about £850 to insure with 1year no claims - far less than anything else would with this sort of performance. Insurance is a joke for us younger drivers, so its kind of nice to have something that insurance companies rate so lowly. Its only £40 more to insure than my 1.3 Favorit, and it has nearly double the power!

Steve, your spot on, insurance is crazy for younger drivers. Ok, so many are a risk, many crash, many drive badly and dangerously, NOT all, so why should we all pay for their mistakes and stupidity. To brand all young drivers with the same mark is the same as calling all Volvo drivers boring and old etc....! I paid nearly £1500 to insure my Fiat the first year while I was learning to drive on a 899cc engine, then I get a 2.0 litre and I think it was only about £100 more when I had both! Stupid or what! You cannot compare the two cars.

LOL! Well your not boring or very old, and well, someone did pull out infront of you! You're right though, it is luck. Why should the young drivers be robbed!?!

Here's the thing that gets me...

Half the cars I knew of that were written off (with the driver at fault - about 6) at school were Saxos. Saxo VTS (the hot one) is insurance group 14 or 15 I think. However, the replacement, the C2 VTS is insurance group 8 thanks to better security and being contructed for cheap repair.

In other words, Citroen have been allowed to almost half the insurance group of a car preferred by dangerous drivers. That's criminal, and another reason why I HATE french cars with a passion.

cheers

James, so true! Annoying, but that's just how insurance is against us! Hmmm, now normally those with the new cars at our age have had them bought for them by their rich parents and don't worry about the cost of the insurance and the car (I say normally no offense to anyone who has actually worked hard to afford their new car and insurance etc.) which annoys me when you've worked hard to afford something and actually appreciate it.

Spot on Pete, I find that you appreciate things far more when you've used your own hard earned cash to buy it. The people I know who have had cars bought for them certainly don't appreciate it and I feel take it for granted. I don't really see much point of having a new car at our age, it's far easier to run an older car and do occasional repairs rather than battle with dealers and extautionate servicing...

Glad someone thinks the way I do! Thought it was just my own conservative opinions on the expense of new cars, the depreciation, servicing, how common and how much of a fashion statement they are. And like you say, they do take it for granted, but often they're the popular ones, only because of their unearned possessions, yet some people cannot see this! Phew, rant over for tonight, still glad to be different owning a (ok several) 300's!

I must confess that I have a deal with the folks that whilst I'm a student, they cover all the 'running' expenses, and I pay for petrol and any 'toys'....everything from tuning parts to non-essential maintainance (eg: bodywork repairs). For what it's worth, it doesn't make me value the car any less...it just means I have more spare cash to spend on food...

cheers

might be an idea to keep studying for another ten years then James LOL.
Sky has always paid all the costs on his cars even though I drove the nova more than he did (we did have it insured in his mums name to keep premiums down until he passed his test but he paid it ) It has helped him learn to budget and the cost of his old insurance plus 4 driving lessons a month works out almost the same as his insurance in his own name so he dosn't really notice the difference going out of his account

My first 360 was bought cause it was cheap, although i coulda bought a Nissan 300ZX for the same money(as i found out 2 weeks after buying it).

I was glad i bought it over the 300ZX, cause i dont think you would walk away with a slight headache and a small glass nic if u hit a tree at 160kph in the nissan.

So i bought another one as i had heaps of parts available from the wreck,
Its still uncommon, and i occasionally have someone get curious as to what i drive seeming its not a ford holden or jap import.
