Sorry to bring up this thread again, but finally got round to unburying the B230 from the garage this afternoon.... and its got a 531 head. Result :D

Now I just need a spare £500 to allow me to get the bits I want to put it in the car!! Hmmmm, maybe a should just sell the BX.

Heh, it's tempting as it would enable me to have a 360 GLT powered by a fire breathing B230 with 531 head, k-cam and twin 45s

And I only really need one car these days, and MPG isn't a problem as I dont do many miles. Interesting...

It must be a B230FB then. 531 and VX3 cam. The cam is quite sought after in the US when you come to swap it out, as iPd sell them new at £100. It's used as a stock upgrade which still passes strict 'smog' tests...unlike the K!

That's quite interesting James. If/when I do come to change it that would let me make a bit of the money back at least!

I've sold both of mine for £50 (each). Oh....and you're a git, those NA 531s are always really clean!

:D

Well at some point soon I'll take the head off for a wee rebuild and to check it IS clean!!

Then I'm tempted to hook it up to the standard 360 ECU just to see if it works - I'm just curious TBH!! Then I need to decide how to fuel it properly. One day I'll get there

I'd really like to, but they're so damn expensive compared to 40s. Then there's the manifold on top, and then getting them tuned properly. Would be pretty awesome though!! I'm gonna be keeping my eye open for a cheap pair.

Would do you reckon a B230 with 531 head, VX3 cam and 45s would put out? Would it be worth using the k-cam I've got hanging around instead?

i think youll be around the 170 hp mark , most of the volvo original cup cars on fuel injection get to around that mark , so as long as you have a decent exhaust manifold (360 achillies heel) , i see no reason why that isnt possible .

to take advantage of the nice induction and exhaust setup tho , id recomend a better cam than a K

That would make a big difference then. It's almost tempting to give up the BX if that sort of power would be possible.

Something better than a K cam isnt readily available though is it? WHich I guess means have a custom one made which = big £££ :(

sweden is your friend .

yes they might be £200 , but youll live with it for the rest of your time ,

www.enem.se
www.stenparnermotor.se
www.kgtrimning.com

also catcams in belgium have some listed .

something with about 290 degrees duration and 12.5mm lift would be fast road/rally spec . the enem cam for that is the K15

On 45s, you may even see a touch more than that. I think 40s will start to be your limitation quite rapidly at that power level (or indeed getting anywhere near it...one guy on Tbricks is insistant that I won't get past 140 on 40s). I do feel your pain when it comes to the cost of upgrading from 40s to 45s.

and just to point out that 2.3 NA on the dyno had 48s on it - so even an r sport manifold setup is going to be restrictive , because the hole is meant for 40mm chokes .

so there ya have it 45s will have a limit .

so , it might be cheaper to megasquirt it .

On ITBs? They won't be cheap either! :( The stock B200/B230 TB won't flow enough air NA to make as much as 40s will, pound for pound :( A 960 (or some big yankee stuff) TB swap might be interesting!
