1992-`96 Owned a 1988 E-plate 740GL for 5 years until I sold it to pay for the repairs and running costs for my Ford Scorpio 4x4, last time I heard ( 2 years back) the volvo was still on the road - it had 200K miles on the clock when I sold it nearly 10 years previously...
2003-2004 Owned 1988 E-plate 740SE Auto, for just over a year, slow as hell but never went wrong ex-pensioner chariot, I fitted 940 turbo alloys and 205/60/15 tyres, Turbo grille, Turbo rear spoiler, Half-Leather seats.
Then I wrote it off driving out onto a blind bend. I cried tears for ages as you can imagine.
STILL.... with the insurance I insured my V8 Range - Rover - which you really dont want to hear about and cost me a fortune to run, so moving on a few years.....
March 2008, Eeek, Land-Rover Discovery failed MoT ( as expected ) and sold for spares ( as these things are....) bought ex-auction base-spec S40 out of Auto-trader for sum of 600quid.
Actually no nasty suprises, very safe, slow boring miles, until August 2008 when I fitted JVC stereo+Speakers, T4 Alloys+195/55/15tyres and sold it to my workmate for 500quid ( when your visa run out you dont have time to haggle!!)
September 2008. 1986 Volvo 360GLT MK3 Bought for 1100dollars with years breakdown cover. proved pretty much indestructible since then (barring new battery and set of plugs) only drawback is available parts ( no MoT over here, resulting in MadMax-escue bodging.....)

1985 340 gl 1.4 breaking for spares
missus has a french peace of shite 106 1996
and motherinlaw has just purchased a new c30R 1.6 diesel in brilliant white with all the trimmings

Got a 1962 amazon (volvo 130 in English terminology, but mine's an amazon because it's a Swedish import).
And a 740GL B200E auto which I don't like much.
A 360GLT in black, currently off the road for no good reason, looking at getting it going soon.
And the 340 16v which still isn't working. But it will.

The most urgent thing I need for the 740 is rear brakes. Like, really badly.
