I must confess that I don't know much about Spittys...but....the 300 series box is hardly huge, in the grand scheme of things. there's a chance it could be made to fit without too much grief. Also bear in mind that the standard prop is a really rubbish design, and has been known to end up in pieces with stock 1.4 power.

Alternatively, if you know someone who can weld ally, a 340 1.7 bellhousing flange could be mated to the manual box of your choice. I'm not aware of a RWD box for that engine.

Kudos for not wanting to buy a car for parts...although having said that, there are enough rough old nails still around that it's hardly a crime. There's a rough looking 1.7 on a certain auction site, currently at £1, for example. What we do get annoyed about is when people buy the really tidy and rare cars, and then batter the snot out of them. Ironically, given the number of bangers around...it does happen with depressing regularity.

cheers

Hi James,

Thanks for the comments dude. I'm still looking for a spitty. The one I wanted to buy has gone :-( The quest continues.

I'm very very keen on 480's.... I had 5 :D

The problem with fitting this to a spitty would be the shape of the chassis - interesting project.

BTW if you do get one I nev a very good flip front for a spitty that I would be happy happy to change for beer tokens.

Dai - I know a couple of people with Spits who might be interested in a new bonnet depending on price. Although they're both down here so transport would probably be prohibitive...

Tell them to do what me and Nat did and make a weekend of it. Great drive up through Wales and really nice scenery around where Dai is. Plus a quick trip over to Dublin if they fancied that too :)

The roads are great for driving around here. Some amazing lanes for night work etc.

Nick I'd be open to any reasonable offer.

Ok, I've not had a chance to speak to either of them yet, but when I do, I'll let them know.

Here is my b18ft being removed today. Your notice the autobox connected.

My next question is how big and how does the autobox box on a 300 fit?

There was no traditional autobox for the 300 series. The 300s were originally adapted from a DAF design and featured the famous Variomatic transmission, which lays in a transaxle arrangement, roughly in between the rear wheels. The manual gearboxes were put in the same place.

The size of the CVT transmission is much larger than other gearboxes here too. Search for CVT on this forum might bring you up some pics.
