best place to learn oversteer is BIG wide empty roundabouts, that way you've got somethihng to aim for, and theres not much to hit. its how i learned
the trickiest thing imo is actually catching it properly, and spinning the wheel back straight quick enough. if you dont, you'll end up turning teh wrong way

My housemate has just brought a 440 GLT has a run-about car and i think the alloys on that would suit the 360 quite nicely!
As for the oversteery-ness, its definately worth finding somewhere to have a bit of a play. I used to use the roundabouts on the way to work at 6.30am in the old 340 DL to practice on, certainly learnt a thing or 2! Takes a fair bit of balls to keep the power down and correct it though, normally i ease off and let it catch itself before i get into silly fishtailing moments.

Couldn't them 440 GLT alloys magically find themselves on the 360 before Sunday

Seen a few 360s with them, they would look good on the 360, and are really cheap and widely available

You mean like my late 440 alloys

C'mon, you practically begged me to pimp them....
Notice how Hugh has kindly parked his car next to mine to make mine look good! Arf arf arf...
The 360 is only twitchy at the back if you have crap tires. I have Michelin Energys on the rear, and it can be a bit slippery (Energys are wierd 'low rolling resistance' thingys, which basically means they are a bloody hard compound!). With my old tires, you had to work pretty hard to get the back to come unstuck - I'm talking WOT on a wet corner.
Yardley is a bit of a trek, but if I'm heading that way before the meet...
Here's hoping for a rainy day for the meet - I want to get some drifting action on the go!
cheers

Totally agree. when i put the Uniroyals all round the car was transformed, and it just gripped and gripped. You had to *really* provoke it to get out of shape. Unfortunately for Steve, i'm keeping those for myself coz i spent a load of money on them!

C'mon, we all knew them pics were in the first V3M meet topic anyway

but they do look good, and probably the best style.
Does anyone know what the "Antares" late 440 alloy looks like, I can't find a pic and I know of a set for sale - bet they're them bloody multispoke ones!
James, where will you be passing? Could always meet somewhere in the middle. Oh and dry weather for the meet please, with them twitchy tyres!
Anyway, off to the train station to get train ticket to pick up the 360!

Never let it be said that I am not a legend...I give you...Antares....
My vote would be for 'cetus' or 'atlas' rims. My 'canis' rims have been done now....given the HUGE range for the 400 series, I don't see the point in duplicating.
To be honest, I'm not going to be passing before the meet. It was more a case of if you lived more like Lichfield and you weren't getting the car for a month or two, it'd be good, but the meet is only a few weeks away!
cheers

Thanks James, don't think I've ever seen them before! I know of a set for sale including tyres for £75.. I'll have to see how my finances are though, even though it seems a bargain!
Well I shall be at the meet as long as Sunday goes ok, I can't see there being any problems.. already transferred insurance over for that date too, ahh 360 insurance is laughable really! It was only 50 quid more than the Skoda Favorit 1.3 I have at the moment, although don't laugh.. it's actually quite fun!

Oh oh oh... A 360 GLT faster than a mk2 Golf GTI? Don't forget there is 200 kg difference between the 2 cars...

> The GLT is slower...
A friend has bought a 1984 Golf GTI (first models for the mk2) 3 weeks ago. He says always that he'll beat my 360 GL injection when his car will be restored and... I think it will be the case
But I have the safety, he doesn't have that with the GTI
Carl wrote:A word of warning though if you're not used to the GLT - be careful in the wet, it can be a bit twitchy at the rear end!! Decent tyres are the way forward though!
That's the best piece of advice you could give to Steve. Last year, in October, a member here bought a GLT Redline and only ONE week after that the car was crashed and destroyed... (driving to fast, wet road, no experience with RWD...) Be very careful and try to "learn" the reactions of the car.

Well I'll be taking it easy in the wet, I'll need to drive it for a while til I'm used to the handling. My previous fwd car is very forgiving - It will not lose grip however hard u try (unless you were to induce some left foot breaking to loosen the back end up), although the body roll is excessive!
I know the 360 can bite if you push its limits, especially with poor tyres.
Theres not much in it between the 360GLT and Golf GTi 8v really, the 16v is alot quicker though.
