Ooooh, get him....next you'll be using the

smiley.

Have you been attending the SteveP School for wannabe internet tough guys?
I'm wondering what the deal is re: closed / open 'cap', material, etc. I need to find four decent 300 series nuts in order to re-fit my final alloy, and I'm getting tempted to get around the problem of the stock ones swelling up by just ordering a set of good quality chrome-plated all-steel ones from the US, assuming they have the correct thread size.
M14 you say. I remember something about Impreza nuts being mentioned before. Anyone running them?
Alternatively, I might try offering up the earlier-style steel nuts to the alloys. The late-model steel nuts my car came with didn't have a rounded profile at the end of the head, meaning the points would dig into a wheel which had a deep seat - i.e. pretty much any alloys.

I've had a batch made. They are domed tops to stop and cack getting in. The thread is a M12 but I 'm not sure of the pitch off the top of my head. New nuts from Volvo are silly money!!

You've gotta be careful with ya nuts! Make sure the chamfer on em is the same angle for both. Some companies use a different chamfer angle and it means theres a good chance that the nut will come loose.

I have some special nuts, that can't be taken off with classic tools. I think i have them on Volvo, have to check out if my dad swap them and put on renault.
We use them to prevent thief stealing rims ( oh they do that often here ).
I'll post a pic of a tool today or tomorrow.

Ok....I bought some nuts from Rally Design. I got abused on shipping, but they're very good quality. I went for open nuts in the end as my alloys have caps which cover the studs anyway. Just to be safe, I've copper greased the open end, which should keep the moisture at bay.
They're M12 x 1.25 with a 60 degree taper. Note that most cars besides Scoobs and Nissans (and 300s!) use M12 x 1.5. 1.25 is fairly unusual.

Indeed, I used to have a page of all the ones that fitted, as I was going around scrappies trying to get alloy ones. It is indeed a fine thread, but they arn't that uncommon... the list I had was around 40 vehicles!
