It doesn't matter if the difference is 50mm or 0.1mm...if the stub of the hub isn't bearing any of the force exerted by the the wheel, you're putting a lot of extra strain on the studs. You'll probably be fine, actually, but if it's a case of spending £20 to have some piece of mind that your wheel won't come off when you're taking a tight corner at speed, it's a no-brainer.

Interesting comment about the mk2 rear drums. I've a niggling feeling that might be correct, actually.

cheers

I didnt use spacers with the vauxhall rims on the redline and it drove perfectly

It's partially a clearance issue (which yours obviously doesn't have) and also a handling issue (I know that fitting incorrect offset rims can cause tramlining and in FWD cars it can cause torque steer).

But if it doesn't do any of those that's cool!

I also have wheels, wich come from a golf.

The rear, without center thing:

Everything is ok, and believe me, i drive it like it's stolen twice :P

But like said, the front wil get more force, and for a few money more safety is not realy a doubt about. (for the center rings)

I haven't actualy

rear drums on my mk2 340 are flush

thought it was rather different, kinda scary looking without the middley bit.

I've never doubted a mk3 :P

Still with Frits on this one though, I can't be the only one that thinks for £20 you've got the extra piece of mind when you go for a hard drive (which, tbh, most of us prolly do)?

Not all cars have a centre location for the wheel, although its not that common, actualy more common on light commecials for some reason.
The way I understand it the weight of the car is supported by the clamping load of the bolts holding the wheel to the hub, and the spigot is there partly as a handy place to fit a grease cap/seal to the hub, and to make it easy for the average punter to fit the wheel bolts (only have to turn the wheel to align holes and wheel usualy stays put while owner risks life and limb retrieving wheel bolts that have rolled into the outside lane of the m25) :D BTW most aftermarket spigot rings are made of plastic, and I run 14 second quater mile drags on golf wheels with no rings, and drive it on the road on renault rims again with no spigot rings. not having a pop, just my personal experience in these matters

This thread is interesting. I tried to use a set of 4x100 Vauxhall rims on a drift day and lost 5 wheel nuts within 3 laps! They felt like they had torqued down, but then came loose as soon as it was driven. I thought this was due to the pitch of the face on the nuts not matching the wheels, but what else could it be?

i would say it was the angle of the taper on th nuts to rim surface!!

The spigot bore on the wheels you have is proberbly too small, some of the vauxhall rims have a very small centrebore which hangs up on the hub just before the wheel sits flush on the hub.

I'm getting some custom made spigot rings from 52.1mm to 57.1mm if anyone is interestted, as it'll probably make sense to make a batch.

Oh, where did you get yours made? Mine are going to be made from some tough PVC material, and probably be about £15-£20 a set inc P&P.

hello people im new to V3M and this thread has been a good read :D

i have a 343 which i just bought and i have a BMW e30 335i (engine from a e34 535i) i heard that golf alloys fit bmw's so if golf wheels fit a volvo will bmw alloy fit a volvo?

i thought about using the bmw 205/55/15 7j on the volvo but i think they will be too wide but my 14ich bottle tops will sit nice if they fit?

any idea :D

Bimmer E30 wheels should fit - but don't know anyone on here who's actually tried it yet
