It might be bit faster, perhaps also veggie compatible, but still old engine with similar output so not spoiling spirit of car, that would also allow 1.6TD and 1.9TD engines, why not D24 too but then one needs to move dashboard 15cm towards rear of car and build car from dashboard to front completely from scratch again, it is so long engine
Maybe a new 340...
Maybe make adapter plate and put VW 1.6diesel in, that is same as d24 6 cylinder engine, but only with 4 cylinders.

i know, that conversion they say. it is very complex with heat exchangers and special filters etc.. thats a conversion kit to run straite veggie,
^^also costs alot of money and is needed for both pumps,
the "topgear" way doesent need all that u filter it ur self first and add a thiner in, which also keeps the injecters clean.
like i said we've run with it for 2 years on a primary car, thats a fair bit of millage no problems,
^^its not that iam a total eco geek or anything lol, but i dont want to see u all taken by these systems that really arent needed, just a money maker for a company.
best thing would be to try it yourself, a tank can allways be emptyed.
btw the r 5 has the same cav pump.
ahh one note in the winter it gets a bit dodgy, quite a bit harder to start and quite a rattle, all good after its warmed though.
Cheers

1988I think you forgot to add the 'try it at your own risk', at the end of your post
Do you ever run it with normal diesel? I think that I've heard that some people use a full tank of premium diesel every now and again like Shell V-power diesel or BP Ultimate Diesel to clean the system through.
Using Vegge oil seems a great idea, I'd love to use it, I just need a diesel.
I wasn't sure about the white spirit idea, is that very good for the environment? I guess it's not much of the stuff.

Well, considering that fuel is the biggest cost of motoring (for us lot anyway, for whom depreciation isn't a cost factor) it might be worth a try! At least, in the "summer" months ...

yup and yup its a good idea to add diesel if its getting a little cooler and if it runs rough, and a tank of good diesel every so often is a good idea and off couse as nothing has been changed u can still use diesel/ or mixed when ever.
in the winter the recomended is called b5 95% diesel to 5 veggie, works like an addive and diesel seems to burn better.
only a tiny bit of white spirit so i dont see it being to0 bad, and fumes are not bad as its used to start bbq's
another thing is it burns cleaner, none or a tiny bit of white smoke from it. and a smell that makes every one hungry as u drive past
*Try It At Your Own Risk* never to late to mention
ps a way i started was to add a liter of oil at a time to diesel in the tank and kept doing it till it reached 100% that way i could tell if it was happy or not,

1988I would like to know how much white spirit to use?
1 part white spirit and 100 parts oil ?
I had heard that you can't mix stuff with diesel, but that seem to be oil company propaganda again, pff.
I could try that now as weather is not too cold yet, +10C at coldest, so mixing litre or two with diesel is not going to make big problems I presume?
And how long you let white spirit and oil to mix up before putting it to car?
edit: Oh yes, my car blows thick black smoke, not grey, but that is because it has been adjusted for maximum performance, have to be bit careful with throttle at city, I have heard veggie oil can help with that too
Also does it matter if I use oil from this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brassica_rapa or this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapeseed
Or maybe olive oil? Omega 3 for D24
There is so many veggie oils to choose from, I think that one of first ones had quite good amount of energy per unit burned, but can't really remember which one it was, in article they claim that it would be second one, but don't know then.

lol, best imo is sunflower oil, but most veggie oils work, peanut oils etc, so its good, just make sure that there arent massive bits or crap in it!!
on the other page i posted the utube/topgear guide to mixing it. needs to be left idealy 1 week, but if u mix it with a fair amount of diesel 1-2 litres just poured in wont hurt.
a very very good test, is to go down the super market and get a couple of litres of sunflower oil (unburned) pour it strate in the tank.(make sure there is a good amount of diesel in there) then see how it reacts,
^^1 thing u will probally notice is that there is less black smoke, and the engine will probally rattle in a differnt sound or less.
i mean trying is the only way.. but every one can put 1 litre of sunflower in to a almost full tank, it wont hurt.
1 other thing jtbo 10C is a bit cool
but yea a litre or 2 should be fine.

198810C is nights here now, we don't consider that to be cold, just bit cool for using t-shirt
At end of next week day time temps are 10C and at night it goes to 6C or even colder, rains probably as much as in UK, autumn seems to be in here
Maybe I test it still with 1 litre or so, effect of course is smaller, but less likely to be problems when poured to almost full tank, maybe I can turn power screw bit more without lot of smoking then
