No worries Dai, there is a fairly hefty amount of work being looked at atm, and this is No.2 on the priority list as far as I can see. It won't happen on this forum though I'd imagine, but it will see light in the not too distant hopefully!

Ha, nah, nothing that exciting, just the guy's who wrote the software behind this forum have realised a new version, meaning support for this one both security and features, is drying up rapily, so we are having to look at switching. Atm, it's all talk and seeing the best course of action as far with all the ideas like the project forum and the photo gallery that have been mentioned over the last 12 months.

This is the time to mention any good features any one has thought of ;)

I think it'd be a good idea have a room especially for projects, saves the "general discussion" being clogged up and make it a little more organised I reckon :)

I agree with having a projects room. But i also agree that you start on the slippery slope of too many rooms and it becomes like turbosport and most other forums. Impersonal.

Ah, someone else has spotted the dilemma! I hate forums that have too many sub forums. Thing is, as Dai says, some things I think would really help the organisation, and a lot of the infomation we have is often lost to the depths of the bottom pages. Doesn't help I find phpbb2's search function less than useful sometimes... but the members how too section could be utilised a lot better I think, as could the green books section be a little more promenent.

A separate topic is a good idea Dai, I'll try and remember in the morning, if I havn't, get involved! Bed time I think.

I understand what you guys are saying with having too many rooms etc, can end up becoming a maze some sites!!

But in saying that, it's not like theres many rooms on here as it is. I doubt one or 2 would cause a problem on this site :)

Also looking at putting in some kinda of real time chat thing I think, these are all random ideas I'm having, so not at all sanctioned yet, but I think chat would be good. Either a web front end for the IRC channel Baz set up, or a self contained solution, not sure which yet!

I agree you don't want to many sub forums as it starts getting messy.
Even as thigs are now a lot of posts dont end up in teh correct forum. Perhaps if the mods moved posts to the correct forum would help keep the info where you would expect to find it - is that possible with what we have?
The idea of live chat does sound good provided its used correctly and does not take away from the forum.

Its a case of balance and that is always hard to find

BUMP.

Maybe a kind of restricted image upload is a good idea? There're lots of posts (I'm just thinking of John's wash/wipe description) which really rely on the pictures to flesh them out. That's a bit of a problem when changing hosters. People move, delete pictures etc, and it'd be a shame to lose that information.

I've noticed the free flickr account restricts you to 200 pictures and am thinking of moving all my stuff over to Photobucket. Thats a lot of posts to update, it'd be easier if some pictures with a more "common interest" were hosted by v3m ...

A lot of security issues to deal with though ...

Yeah, we are trying to look at it mate, basically we are trying for a large overhaul, but in a fashion that it happens once, and doesn't need to be done again for a few years. The worst case of having the forum flicking on and off over a period of weeks is a bad thing, and won't be allowed to happen, so lots of prototyping and testing are going in before we let anything out to the great unwashed ;)

Funnily enough, V3m has a flickr account that is going to be used for the future photo comptetitions, I set it up after a chat with pete.

Flickr is better than Photobucket because it doesn't compress the hell out of the images when it resizes them, thus mucking up the colour and adding loads of noise. Also, if you pay for a flickr professional account there are no limits at all, and at £12 for a year, it's very good value.
