Welded diff on the 340 isn't too bad though, it's really easy to control the tail. It's hard to turn but that's not too big a deal.

I know that it is easy to control the slide. And it is fun to drive tail on the side but for your safety and others don't do it on the public roads if you can avoid it. It can be dangerous if the car tends to oversteer easily. Thats why most cars today are tuned give more understeer before going over the limit.
But as an example i am a powerslide guy and i like to drive almost always tail on the side. But once it did almost turn out nasty. I was driving alongside another car on a 4 lane road across my home town. And on my lane was few cars parked. So i pushed the loud pedal closer to engine. And i passed that another car on my left in no time. So i started to change lane and with those rubbish rear wheels. the rear swinged to right. I catched it luckily in time. But i can bet that those girls in the other car which i passed were scared because it was quite close that i was going to hit their car or spin in front of them.
I guess that they won't speak to me if they remember the car which caused them few extra heartbeats...

But for others safety i am going to avoid sliding on public roads on purpose. And i think other should to it also.

Welded diff also eat tyres ;)

I like to put tail out every now and then too, but also I have learned that it is best to go out only when I ask.

Even understeering basic handling might sound boring, it does not have to be, when one can actually drive you can change it to oversteer with simply shifting weight and using loud pedal.

4 wheel slides are best thing with rwd car

I have just welded my diff on my 360, and my experience is that it has become more predictable... But then again i am a guy who wants the ass out all the time

I love my welded diff:)

I have found that the welded diff does shread the tyres on dry roads but is well worth the fun :D

It may not be such a good idea on ice - but i have never been able to test it

No problem if you are aware of it.
It gets more understered with a welded one untill you step over the "limit"..

But sometimes if it starts understeer. And you hit accelerator it'll understeer more. And sometimes there is no room for stepping over the limit. There is always possibility that something doesn't happen like you expect.

It is funny how life goes, everyone has to make their own mistakes to learn how it really is :P

By the way. Was there any Volvo Turbo model which was equipped with lsd as standard. And i don't mean that lock which doesn't work above 40km/h. i know that it was equipped in Volvo 940 Turbo with Classic pack or what ever that was in 1998 or even in 1997. And if there isn't any i wonder why...

No, there was LSD option for 700 and 200 series, but it was not recommended for turbo models.

Offroad shops are best bet, dana 30 diff locks should fit with some work.

Yes i know that there is locks available. but i meant why they were only options and why none of the cars had them fitted as standard.

Yeah I know, then the clutch is your best friend;) But with a welded one i needed to change my driving style when drifting. When its slippy I need to set up the car before the turn, ether via weight shift , lock the rear end with use of handbrake or gearing down, or power it out or with clutch abuse....Its a lot of fun
