I have a hunch that a PSA (Citroen BX, Visa, Peugeot 305, 504, 505, Talbot 1508, Horizon, 1510, Solara) steering coupling could be close enough to fit. I'll go fetch one and post pics and measurements tomorrow. Cheap, 6.90 eur.

(The hunch again comes from the fact that a local parts dealer has the same parts code for a Volvo 300-series steering coupling and the PSA one...)

Rather roughly moulded rubber with steel inserts.

Diameter for the whole thing : about 74 mm
Thickness: thin parts 10.7 mm, thicker bits with inserts 11.7 mm
Center hole diameter: 10.4 mm
Outer holes, all four: 7.5 - 8.3 (some mould flash inside two of the holes)
Outer holes, diagonally across, center to center: 50.2 mm

I'll get more information on PSA part numbers etc. if it sounds right. It's mounted in a place that's a bit hard to reach unless I need to replace it (and currently I don't...)

Certainly sounds close, I'll try and find mine!

I reckon a solid plate in place of the rubber wouldn't be a bad idea. The PAS cars have a solid linkage - you might get a bit of vibration through the wheel, but possibly more driver feedback.

I've certainly been tempted mate. I may well (as I have the part anyway) give it a test, I have a shiney new (to me, it's about 50years old) lathe. The only thing I've been worried about is if there is flex in the rubber (i.e. it's used as a UJ for tiny angles).

Still, one way to find out I guess :D

I hadn't thought of that - there's always the option of welding in a UJ from a PAS V300, or indeed any other steering column you can find in the scrapyard. This part is basically a consumable - if we're going to keep these cars on the road we need to start thinking creatively.

i'm planning on a solid aluminium connection for that.

it's a vibration damper, rubber isn't constructed to correct misalignment so it doesn't matter what material you do these unless you want a super comfy ride.

it will be an easaly reproducable part, the 2 steel parts can be used for a new one.

Here's an example of a Citroen steering coupling, with the two bolts included. This looks a lot like the picture in VADIS. If only the measurements are correct...

That rubber steering vibration damper is a common PSA part. Peugeots, Citroens and even some Talbots and Simcas use it so those are available as aftermarket spare parts.

The same part can be found from at least these vehicles. List below is from this large finnish parts store called 'Motonet'. I've bought one steering damper from there (with Motonet part number 18-1685) and it was the same part for all of the vehicles listed below.

18-1685

VOLVO 343/345/340/360 Steering damper PSA
300s Steering damper (without power steering) [1977->1991]

6.90 €

18-1685

TALBOT SOLARA Steering damper PSA
Solara Steering damper [1981->1986]

6.90 €

18-1685

TALBOT 1510 Steering damper PSA
1510 Steering damper [1979->1986]

6.90 €

18-1685

TALBOT HORIZON Steering damper PSA
Steering damper [1979->1986]

6.90 €

18-1685

SIMCA 1307/1508 Steering damper PSA
1508 Steering damper [1964->1980]

6.90 €

18-1685

PEUGEOT 505 Steering damper PSA
P505 Steering damper (without power steering)

6.90 €

18-1685

PEUGEOT 504 Steering damper PSA
P504 Steering damper (without power steering)

6.90 €

18-1685

PEUGEOT 305 Steering damper PSA
P305 Steering damper (without power steering) [1978->1988]

6.90 €

18-1685

CITROEN BX Steering damper PSA
BX Steering damper (without power steering) [1983->1993]

6.90 €

18-1685

CITROEN VISA Steering damper PSA
Visa (GTi excluded) Steering damper [1981->1988]

6.90 €

So at least those cars have the same part. :P

That "local parts dealer" I mentioned earlier was exactly Motonet... I still tend to forget that nowadays they have something like 15 (or more?) stores across Finland. And besides, from a UK point of view it's "local" as they don't have stores there. :lol: But the main warehouse is still here in Turku. Traditions, traditions...

OK, a current update:

the small inline fuel filter for injected Volvo 360s is still available (the part under the car near the fuel pump) - 3202711
door hinge pins are still available (I'll never understand why) - 3140643

various M47 gearbox gaskets:
Front cover to case (340/60 M45R/M47R) 1340989
Top cover (M47R) 1340991
Case to 5th.gear housing (M47R) 1340992
5th.gear housing to diff. (M47R) 1340993

cambelt & tensioner kit for a 360 (unsurprisingly)
360 89°C thermostat 273459 (B200 water pump still NLA)
alternator drivebelt for a 360 (PAS and AC pump belts are NLA)

It's not a great suprise to learn that parts common to "bigger" Volvos are still there, but the inline fuel filter and the door hinge pins are a nice surprise ;-) I don't think they fit any other kind of Volvo.

Cheers

Tom

Fuel filter... is that for an injected car or carb? Mine has an inline fuel filter in the engine bay but I'm dubious over the inlet/outlet diameter compared to the hose diameter!
