If you ever get around to it be sure to let me know, I just thought of a good idea for a trip computer down here in aus.

If the dimensions are right it could fit where ashtray goes.

Looks like that would do a good job tbh, I'll see if I can find an info on the electrical side for it later.

Put it on Ebay and see :-)

Prices for original Volvo 300 accessories have been getting pretty silly lately. Generally, if it's unused and still in its original box chances are pretty high it'd go for 100 - 200 Euros.

So I guess the 100 pounds Redline mentioned is pretty spot on ...

Cheers

perhaps I should have said mine was brand new in the box
(i.e. had never been fitted)

it was a carb one and this was about three years ago
( not that the purchaser has ever fitted it lol)

£11 isn't particularly expensive...

It was at 99p the last time I'd checked. Sounds an absolute bargain, I guess the sarcasm didn't get through :P

Don't want to thread jack, but is that shane guy a V3M person? The name doesn't sound like it, but you never know... He might be wanting to fit it to an Astra :P

Are you planning on outbidding Tom? I'm not particularly interested, but for that price if no V3M person is taking it I might be interested... Someone else get there first!

PM'd guys :-)

In an attempt to get back to topic, is anyone in the same position as me regarding the driving computer? I've only got the actual "cash register" display unit, but no

* injection box (Chris?)
* speed sensors (I've heard universal ones from Conrad might fit?)
* way of measuring fuel flow.

Is anyone else in a similar situation? Maybe a group buy could keep the costs down ...

Yeah, I'm soon to have the Driving Computer display with no other parts - would be interested to see if we can figure something out with this.

I googled an article by someone who attached speed sensors to his motorbike using these:

... connected up to a microphone cable. At least it looks like a cheap option!

Should be easy enough to cobble something together. I've fitted to a Maxi I used to have a Unipart (aka Zemco) trip computer. There were four magnets attached with wire around one of the CV joints of the front driveshaft. The flow sensor was in the line to the carb. It shouldn't really matter what signal you get from them as the main box had to be calibrated to the senders and corrective factors entered.

I've also got a couple of Sparkrite trip computers, but no Mobelec / Smiths type ones. :)

Zemco make a trip computer that looks identical to the Volvo one, I think they just bought x number of them and printed a Volvo logo on them, I'll look out the model number.

Injection guys, you don't need fuel flow sensors, thats what the injection box does. You do need speed sensors, but these are very simple, and 99% of anything will work.

Carb's need the fuel flow sensor, I know where one of these is, to get specs for it, and also the speed sensor.
