This is a quite common problem.. I had the support beam welded because of the rust.

It's not too complicated to fabricate your own beam though if the beam is totally knackered.

When I reassembled my 340's back end I used the least rusty support out of the 5 I'd managed to collect. Strange that the gearbox front crossmembers don't seem to suffer nearly as much from the tinworm.

The rear one probably gets more spray from off the road.

Same thing I did to the vario props. You'd have to call it weak design really, from a tuning point of view. Adam, have you managed ok using standard props with the F7R?

Yeh fine, this was only caused because of the gearbox monting.

That's good to know, mine's on a standard prop too. All my mounts are good, I've had the car almost down to a shell in the last 6 months, seems like there's not one bit i haven't inspected and refitted/replaced. Seems a bit unhealthy really

Interesting stuff. I've had the bushings collapse on a 340 before, but never this.

George Mitchell (Friends of the Volvo 300) has had a batch of 360 crossmembers with a revised design made. I did wonder why, as I'd never heard of it being a problem, but maybe I'm just not 'on the money'...

cheers
