What loom for the 1.7 - the 1.7 only has wiring for temp sender, oil pressure alternator and starter. The 2ltr 440 engine is the 1.7's bigger brother and looks exactly the same from teh outside.

The 360 2 ltr is the volvo engine not renault so are nothing alike.

the only thing with the 2litres i see a problem with is:

440 2lt 8v has renix renault F3r is coil pack.

now the F3R will accept the 1.7 bits to make it dizzy instead of coil packs, but then you have to think about how your goign to fire it up. unless you run it on the coil packs... i also belive you need to change the fly wheel..

Use the 1.7 flywheel and keep all the original renix set up. You need to use the 1.7 dizzy cap to clear the heater housing.

Basicaly all you need do is bolt on the 1.7 parts to the 2 ltr.

The only issue you can sometimes have is the water connection off the head to the expansion tank can be slightly different from year to year but is very easy to overcome.

would the 2 ltr be worth it tho in terms of more power or would it be much the same as the 1.7?

well acording to parkers the 440 2.0 has 110bhp

whilst the 1.7 has 80bhp

so providing it is as simple a swap as said, quite worth it i would have said.

also on parkers they say they did a 2.0 340,

true, those had a volvo B19 engine;

however, don't put your mind to that, those cars are so rare that you'll probably never find them. (the 2 litre 340 was very short after the 343/345 range changed to 340/360, a few cars were sold as a 340 2 litre, these had the chassis of a 343/345 dls/gls and the appearance of the 340mk2; probably only a few of those produced in 83 since there are 83 360's too and with 340/360 they wanted to create a clear difference in the cars.

this engine isn't a straight swap, it's a original volvo so has the torquetube construction and 2 engine mounts instead of the b14/b172 4 mounts.

so what is needed then, or just all the mounts etc from the 1.7?

and how bare of an engine can be used

ie, if i buy a bare engine, no mani or anything, can i just swap stuff like the inlet and exaust mani's over,

a renault 2.0 is a straight fit ie volvo 440 had a 2.0 renault engine, the volvo 2.0 redblock engine family that went in 300's (b200, b19)is definatly NOT a straight fit!

We didn't get any 340 2.0's at all Anjo afaik :(

2.0 from a 400 if you get the right one would give you 360GLTish power levels.
